Well, the jungle primary ballot guide has come, and I’m looking at the candidates, and I’m at a loss. Take the Governor’s race. I know that the incumbent will win regardless of how I vote, bu0t all the serious candidates (that is, those who are not prime candidates for the mental asylum) seem to advocate some form of intrinsic evil or another. I know a Catholic shouldn’t vote for people supporting intrinsic evil, but what happens if all of the candidates do, and it’s a question of which intrinsic evil you are willing to put up with (theoretically - because of the vagaries of the race the outcome is predetermined)?

Pick the lesser of two evils. You are right, our beloved governor will get sent back to Sacramento, but that shouldn’t stop you from voting and voting for someone else for governor.

Yeah, but looking at their platforms, it’s as if they decided among themselves which candidate would support which intrinsic evil.

My bigger question is, if in an election all the candidates support some form of intrinsic evil (but not the same ones) what is a Catholic voter to do?

I am looking and not finding a sort of list of what powers governors actually have. It seems to be economic issues that they have all centered their platforms on, so I wonder just how much power they actually have towards things like gay marriage and abortion.

I have come to realize that both parties have issues that go directly against Catholic church teaching and they are not small issues either. Also there are some on each side who lean the opposite of their party. That is why the Catholic voters guide helps a lot.

OK, so what you are saying is:

“My vote won’t make a difference. So which evil should I personally endorse?”

If your vote doesn’t make a difference then you should not personally endorse any evil. The good that would arise from doing so is disproportionate to the consequences to yourself of having endorsed evil.
