Vow renewal in Vegas?

Well, Vegas is a special place for me and my husband, so obviously it will be fun and romantic for us in ways you might not understand.

Everyone has different tastes and preferences. Have fun in Vegas and happy anniversary!

There might be a parish in Vegas where you can go to Mass as a means of Thanksgiving for your years of marriage. The ideal would be to invite Christ into your celebration, as I alluded to in my earlier post. Then, at the reception, you can certainly go at it with Elvis. The most important person in your marriage, though, is Christ. You can have all of the fun and the romance, but He is the glue that holds you and your spouse together.

Of course, if you want romance, you could have Elvis either at the Paris or the Venetian hotels. If you go the Venetian route, you could perhaps have him sing to you on the gondola.

I think it would be a fun thing to stand up in front of Elvis and testify to your love. The real iffy part for me would be anybody other than the priest or official Church witness saying, “I now pronounce you man and wife…” If he instead said something like, “let’s all toast the happy couple” or if he then began to sing Love Me Tender I think it would be OK.

It would also be fun to catch a nice steelhead on Lake Superior, but I wouldn’t renew my vows on the beach! If you really feel that you must renew your vows, do it in the church like you did the first time. Better yet, put your energy into doing something special for your spouse each and every day.

Frankly, if you are even considering it I think you have your priorities messed up. Are you living for your enjoyment or for love of God? Who is first in your life?

I don’t mean to be judgmental. Go ahead and take a trip to Las Vegas. Enjoy yourself. Joy in this life is good. But don’t connect it to something as sacred a s a sacrament.

I’m sorry, but this is just silly. All I was asking is if the Church has a problem with it. They don’t. Yay. Not EVERY single thing we do has to revolve around the Church. I was married in the Vatican with the proper form in a beautiful and holy ceremony. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have a little SECULAR fun every once in awhile. God I believe, has a sense of humor, and will look down on us and on how far we’ve come and how much fun we still have together after all these years and smile
