Wailing Fire Engines and the Cries of the Souls in Purgatory

I was in church waiting for confession when I heard a fire engine’s siren wailing. When I hear sirens, I usually try to pray for the people at the emergency. However, this time God pointed me to pray for the souls in Purgatory as well. The sirens are like the souls in Purgatory wailing in anguish, and they go through more pain than the people involved in the fire on earth.

What do you guys think? 🤔
 
If people do go to " purgatory " wouldn’t they be happy because afterwards they are going to Heaven, why fear purgatory why is this imaginary place so horrible for some reason.

This day Nov 8 wraps up the week when Catholics are supposed to especially pray for souls in Purgatory, so maybe that’s why God put the thought in your head. I have been going to different cemeteries each day to get the special indulgence for them. You are to be commended for praying for the poor souls in purgatory any day of the year. An easy way to do it is at the end of regular prayers, after you make the final sign of the cross, say “Jesus, have mercy on the souls in purgatory and the souls on earth.” I was taught to say this at the end of all prayers since I was tiny.
 
In Purgatory the souls go through the cleansing fires, which are more painful than anything on earth. Indeed, the souls get to Heaven eventually, but like a stained carpet, they must go through an intense cleaning process.
 
seems a bit odd for the need to inflict pain to a make a point and to " cleanse " someone so they can enter into heaven, and even more odd to have to live life on earth behind the eight ball in a no win situation that pretty much has determined everyone going to this so called purgatory.

One doesn’t go to a hopsital to mend a wound, or what ever kind of surgical treatment needed and the doctor says well, im going to make you better , but im not going to bother with any anthestisa because you need to learn a lesson about your health, or some other such nonsense.

An then this idea of purgatory pretty much suggests that God cant really forgive anyone with out some form of punishment let alone isn’t powerful enough to " cleanse " a person so he or she can enter heaven.
 
Can anyone clarify this: can we experience purgatory while we live here and now?

It is reported with extreme redundancy by many canonized mystics that Purgatory involves intense suffering. To name two more recently canonized moderns mystics: St Padre Pio & St Faustina, though the total number is far, far more than that.

Among Catholics like myself, that carries a lot of authority. Greater authority than subjective distaste.

That isn’t to say that even in extreme suffering, that a person cannot be on some level happy as well, because of the knowledge they won’t be kept from God forever, but nonetheless, Purgatory is a place where certain torments can be just as intense as the torments of hell.

Sin and disobedience on Earth increases the duration that a person must spend there.

There are many ways of partially remitting the consequences of sin: Mass, Confession, prayer, penance, spiritual works of mercy, and corporal works of mercy.

We don’t have an exact understanding of Purgatory, but the purification does not seem to be the same for everybody. Some (most) people experience intense suffering while they are there, but it is also reported that souls who are in the last stages of the purification appear radiant and undisturbed.

So suffering might not be an absolute requisite to purification. It is possible that everybody goes to Purgatory before entering Heaven, but not all souls are subject to punishment while they are there.

well mysticism is up there with " speaking in tongues " when only the person who claims to have super powers can validate what is being said or not, so that doesnt really tread any water, Redundancy isn’t anything special either; considering if one person researches something and finds any information on the subject one can then claim the same thing. Like those who claim to have been abducted by aliens . All I see it to be is nothing more than another way to spread power and fear into people who are easily scared or easily controlled under the guise of doing something good for God, when doing such things are not even needed. An it still doesnt answer the rest of what I asked that you left out, Which really doesnt matter because it would be just more rationalization, i was just pointing it out. Cheers.
 
There is a General judgment that you’re talking about Judgment Day .But the personal judgment is, immediately after a person dies, who go to purgatory. It is a real place. A beautiful creations of God he knows even after his death the effects of sin will still remain so through the sacraments especial confession, and the Holy Mass, he can still get us to Heaven.
Purgatory as the fulfillment of our earthly penance or un-repented venial sins. If penance is understood as a process of conversion and transformation, we will come to see purgatory not as a fearsome reality, but as the consummation of the whole movement of Christian life to salvation.
But what about the fire of purgatory? The early fathers of the Church saw the fire of purgatory as a creative fire that cleansed and purified. The fire of purgatory is the living fire of the Holy Spirit, not the fire of destruction and desolation. There are different schools of thought about purgatory. Some mystics and theologians have reported it as physically painful, others as an un-painful learning experience, and St. Therese of Lisieux said souls basically get what they expect from God and those who expect a painful purgatory get it, those who expect a merciful God skip the pain.

About calling Purgatory imaginary:
If it’s not real then your question is beside the point.

If it is real then:
You get to go to Heaven but the pains you need to go through first are worse than being burned to death. It’s not unreasonable for the souls to fear the pain and seek relief even as they await with joy the bliss of Heaven waiting for them.

It’s not being done to make any points. It’s being done because the cleansing is a real and needed thing.

False analogy. The pain of Purgatory isn’t there to teach us a lesson. The pain is the “treatment” we need. No suffering=no purification,=no entry into Heaven. Not because God is being mean about it but because we really do need to be made perfect before we enter into the Beatific Vision.

The souls in Purgatory are there because God has forgiven them. Nor is it a matter of power.

Also putting the word ‘cleanse’ in scare quotes doesn’t stop what we speak of from being real.
