Wait -- patrons don't see ads?!?!?!?

The feedback sub-forum seems like it’s disappeared, so I’m posting here.

There’s a button on the site labeled “become a patron”. And, I’ve seen folks with the heading “Patron” at their avatar, with a cute little ribbon on the pic itself.

But today, I just browsed to the new “Patron” section of the forum, and saw a sticky that IDed that patrons aren’t presented with ads when they’re on the site. What??? I mean… WHAT???

Geez Louise! That orange button shouldn’t say “Become a Patron”! It should say “If you become a patron, you’ll no longer be bombarded by irrelevant and annoying ads”!!!

Count me in!
 
I’m watching your icon now to see when the ‘Patron’ badge appears. 😛

Just ran into a block for access because ad blocker is activated on my PC…I am aware of the patron drive, and it’s importance, and don’t see why the ad blocker needs to be disabled so I can hear what I already know about…not to mention it opens the door for other intrusions, and ad blocker is part of my security software…so I’m just not using my PC and if the campaign becomes more aggressive on my other devices, I’m out, completely.

I saw that, too, and that’s what incented me to look for the “suggestions” sub-forum. (All I had to do was re-load, and the site came back up, without the nag message.)
 
Interestingly, the way they’ve implemented it is by making patrons be the definition of the class of “regular user”… 🤔
 
Thanks, i tried that but same thing happened…maybe if I reboot it will fix it…I would love to donate, but have been out of work without being eligible for unemployment, and I would hate to think an otherwise great Catholic apologetic and evangelization website would treat users like St. James cautioned about in regards to preferential treatment.

I’m just wondering if you are a Patron and subsequently get banned, is your patronage and donation voided automatically? How would you go about having that sorted otherwise?

That was my first question when this Patron jazz started… maybe it depends on the donation amount🤣
 
I’d be surprised if any organization ‘voids’ donations, haha.

I think the essence of a donation is that it’s a donation. That money’s gone.

Privileges granted to people as a ‘thank you’ for a donation could presumably be rescinded by an organization for whatever reason they reserve the right to.

I imagine any person who made a donation for the purpose of receiving the ‘thank you’ privilege, though, might retract subsequent donations if they lose that privilege.

It’s a monthly donation. I’m pretty sure you could turn it off at a separate donation site, since getting banned here just blocks you from the forum rather than from the whole CA site.

Also, if you’re paying by check then just quit sending the checks. If you’re paying by credit card then your credit card company can probably help you end a recurring charge.
