Dear Brothers and Sisters,

What were those days between Ascension and Pentecost like? We are told in the scripture that Jesus charged his disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father, and when Pentecost came they were all together praying with Mary.

Just to look upon Mary … to see her at prayer would help the disciples. Again, let us remember Jesus told John and all of us from His Cross: “Behold your Mother”.

I remember reading someone at the time of the apparitions at Lourdes testified that to watch Bernadette as she prayed was such a blessing, because she was looking at the Virgin Mary and praying with her.

We can only see our Mother with the eyes of faith but let us open the eyes of our hearts and pray with her, interceding with her that the Holy Spirit may descend upon the Church – upon each one of us – in new and marvelous ways to make us holy, and draw others to Christ.

Come Holy Spirit, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love!

A deep and beautiful thought MariaChristi.

Dear ManyFaces,

Thanks for your reply. As I continued to pray over the image of Mary and the disciples waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, I thought of Mary’s words to the servants at Cana: “Do whatever He tells you”.

I also thought of something a friend of mine relayed to me about her little boy when she took him to Church and he looked at the Statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He said that Mary was praying, and when she asked him what he thought she was praying, he answered: “The Our Father” – out of the mouths of babes! 🙂 I think he is about three years old.

Mother Mary help us to be true children of God.

Dear Jeanne,

Thanks for your reply. It is so significant to me that Scripture places Mary in the midst of the disciples at Pentecost. How truly she is our Mother and Model! Her vocation to bring Jesus into this world did not end after Bethlehem nor after her Assumption into heaven, but she continues from heaven by the power of the Holy Spirit to bring God’s Life to us in Baptism. By Grace, we are called to live in Him.

“O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in your servants, in the spirit of holiness, in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways, in the truth of your virtues, in the communion of your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen.” – prayer of Fr. Jean Jacques Olier, S.S. (1608-1657)

Thank you for your posts.
I wish the endless stream of folks Catholic and Non-Catholic who are constantly saying they don’t “get” Mary would read some of this.
It needs to be said, and you have done so quite beautifully.
Our Lady is smiling. 🙂

Dear pianistclare,

Thanks so much for your encouraging reply. Of course we know the Truth of St. Therese’s words: “Everything is Grace”. I am grateful the Holy Spirit gives me something to say about our Mother that can make her smile and help all of us love her more. She is more beautiful and more loving than we can even imagine – for she is God’s Mother first, and then His gift to us! 🙂
