My mom said that, at prom, she wants everyone to stare at me and say “hot d***”, and other stuff. I however, do not. I don’t like that kind of attention, and I for sure don’t want any guys (or girls, nowadays) to think of me like that, especially since we all are close and like a family of sorts, and I know for a fact I’m the kind of girl guys think of as cute or adorable (which I prefer) certainly not “hot”. She wants an open back for my dress and I’m just. Noooo. Is she going to listen? Nope.

Well, she can’t force you to go to prom. So maybe the way for you to get the more modest dress you want is to say you won’t go if your dress is too revealing? Obviously sub-optimal if you’ve really been looking forward to prom, but a possibility.

And while you mentioned your mother won’t listen, how much have you talked to her about it? And what are her reasons beyond wanting people to think, “*(high level of heat) (structure to slow water flow)*”? Just thinking people here might help you get some good counterarguments.

Well, there is nothing wrong with looking pretty. I have five sisters and I wouldn’t want them going out looking like slouches. However, with looking pretty comes a certain responsibility. And if you don’t feel comfortable in a certain outfit you shouldn’t have to wear it. I think you should just have a serious talk with your mom about it. Don’t be rude but tell here how you feel about it. And as mVitus says, you don’t even have to go. I never went to a prom (okay, I was homeschooled, bad example).

Maybe tell her that you are going to prom to look pretty but not to look enticing.

She will force me to go to prom even if I make that argument, or she won’t let me go at all if she doesn’t get what she wants. I have talked about it, and she says anything I really want is too frumpy and matronly. And I have no honest idea why she wants people to think that, except that for her prom she wore an ugly dress. She keeps saying stuff about how certain dresses are sexy and I protest but she tells me to shut up because she knows what will look good on me. I want to go to prom because it is my senior year, and I loved the food last year.

I wanted something like this (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

But she wants me to wear something like these:(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Question: How would she force you to go to prom? Just wondering.

With those dresses, they look nice in my opinion. (Though I know it’s your mother you need to convince.)
Perhaps if you go dress shopping, let the person helping you know about your disagreement with your mother. She [your mother] might be more persuaded by the salesperson and if she sees you in what you want, it might sway her to what you want.

She can force me to go by taking my phone if I don’t (which isn’t that big of a deal) or not letting me go to church class (way more of a big deal since I’m a teacher) More than likely she would resort to her usual way of doing things and making me feel about an inch tall by putting me down til I give in just to make her stop
