Hello, all!

I have decided very recently that I want to become Catholic. However, I understand that I’m not in the best moral situation. In February, I moved in with my boyfriend. I’m now living in an area that I cannot afford to live with on my own. I also have a child who is nearly 3 and I’m very wary of having unknown people around him. I know that in a normal situation, people might suggest just living separately or having a roommate, but these seem like almost impossible ideas. I don’t have anyone else I know in the area that I can move in with. My question is, in my current situation, can I still become Catholic?

I would suggest you contact a local Catholic Church and meet with the Priest to discuss your situation. There’s no “one size fits all,” everyone has their own unique situation and he is the best one to give you advice. Welcome to your journey to the Church.

Definitely contact a priest and explain. He will be able to help you.

May you be filled with loving kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.

Welcome! Any way you could move back to where you lived before moving in with your boyfriend? Is your boyfriend interested in joining the Catholic Church?

My boyfriend is Catholic, though not as serious about his faith as he could be. And moving back isn’t really an option because it was 2.5 hours from here and I would have to leave my job.

Actually, you could still live with your boyfriend and pursue your desire to enter the RCC. There would be the matter of trying to live chastely while you do so, but if your boyfriend is antagonistic to the idea, things just got a bit more difficult; at least spiritually. Of course a good question might be, if you are contemplating eventual marriage with your BF, would he be understanding that this is a firm and intensely personal desire (and need) of yours and respect your wants, needs, and desires? If not, might you question how supportive he will be of your future needs and wants? Is he generous and giving, or selfish and self centered?
Talk to a priest at a local church as has been suggested. Then pursue what speaks to your heart.
Prayers and good luck. Peace
