While my friend and I had untold amounts of conversations on God and religion and Catholicism the talk we had where I honestly urged him to consider the consequences of his actions only happened once…I did not “badger” him on it or bring it up when I saw him doing something objectionable. Otherwise you just come across like a nagging parent…

Ours was more like an intervention talk the last time where I said what had to be said and let him know if he continued down his path I could not be around him anymore…tough love…

I am not saying you did this by the way…

Does he care? Or would you be wasting your words. Is his behavior that out of control or is it more petty? It’s hard for me to give advice. So I ask questions. He’s your friend. I hope you saying so won’t dramatically change the dynamics of the friendship. I wish you the best.

It is charitable to warn them. But like what others have said, the response could be negative.

As Catholics, we are called to care about what God thinks about us, not other people’s opinion of us. It is hard, though. It’s natural for humans to desire to be liked and accepted.

I think the intention matters and if it is warranted. I guess fear of hell should always follow us. If it’s something petty, no need to bring up hell I guess. I cannot think of a perfect answer for this.

Hello.

Sounds like your heart was in the right place. I think it’s better to express concern - with love - to your friend now, that’s part of being a friend, than just letting them dig themselves in deeper. If they get angry, that’s their problem, and is to be expected.

Helps me to remember that Hell is a possibility for all of us.

Please pray for me.
