My 2 spanish bibles say he was rubio, blonde

but in english bibles it says he was ruddy, a readhead

11 Then Samuel asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” Jesse replied, “There is still the youngest, who is tending the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send for him; we will not begin the sacrificial banquet until he arrives here.” 12 Jesse sent and had the young man brought to them. He was ruddy, a youth handsome to behold and making a splendid appearance. The LORD said, “There-anoint him, for this is he!” 13 Then Samuel, with the horn of oil in hand, anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and from that day on, the spirit of the LORD rushed upon David. When Samuel took his leave, he went to Ramah.

Maybe stillsmallvoice can help us, he cant tell us what it says in hebrew.

In English, the word “ruddy” refers to the complexion of the skin, not the color of the hair. We would envision David as having red cheeks.

The Hebrew word used here is ynmda (admoniy), which is defined as “red, ruddy.” It is the same word used of the color of Esau, in Genesis 25:25.

Rubio would be, indeed, a strange rendering for the Spanish translators to use, as it does mean blond. A redhead would be “pelirrojo” and “ruddy” would be “rubicundo.”

It’s not about his hair color but his skin color. He had a ruddy complexion.

Really Donosti?

Looks at my blonde hair and the red headed rabbi I knew in Cleveland.

–arthur, who has blue eyes as well

Hi Don___,

The Greek has “pyrrotês”, red-haired
The Latin has “rufus”, red-haired
The prestigious Bible de Jérusalem (French) has : roux ; red-haired.

I think he was red-haired.
