I have been studying Frank Sheed’s Theology for Beginners, am currently reading his section on the Trinity, and it got me thinking. Was God a Trinitarian God in the Old Testament or even during the creation of the world? We never read about the Son prior to Christ.

God never changes. He is who is. The reason we do not read about the Son in the Old Testament is because God did not reveal that he is Triune until the Incarnation of God the Son as the man Christ Jesus. It is very likely that the revelation was not given until that point because his chosen people first had to learn that there is one God before they (and the world) could be trusted with the knowledge that there are three Persons in the one God.
