Well, if Muslims and other religions believed Jesus was more than a prophet, that would undermine their religion. For example, in Islam they believe Mohammad is the last of the prophets. But in Christianity we believe Jesus, as God’s son, is the final revelation. Jesus tells us all we need to know, and thus he is the last prophet (among other things) and so Mohammad is not needed. Besides, Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to remind us of all truth (John 16:13) after he ascends to heaven, so we don’t even need a follow up prophet. The church recognizes that Jesus actually has three roles, priest, prophet, and king. So it is correct to say Jesus is a prophet, but he is also much more.

We know Jesus is the Son of God because he says so many times himself. Normally Muslims will reply to that by saying there a plenty of “sons of God” in the Old Testament. That is a true statement. Son of God was a title used in the Old Testament for truly devoted followers of God. However, Jesus makes it clear from his references to God his Father, and his description of his relationship to God that he means it more than as an honorific. He refers to God informally as “Abba” which is akin to Dad (no one else would dare refer to God that way, it was considered disrespectful). He says that he and the Father are one (John 10:30, 17:11 among others), and that if you have seen the Son then you have seen the Father (John 14:9) etc. The first chapter of John is very explicit that Jesus is God. There are tons of other reasons given in the Gospels (John most of all) for our belief in Jesus’ divinity.
Hope this helps.

I highly recommend Inside Islam for Catholics on the EWTN catalog website. Now for a few things:

Muslims believe that both Mary and Jesus were sinless. They also believe that the devil messes with all of the prophets’ messages. If Jesus was sinless, how could the devil mess with His Message?

Now here, they’ll move on to say that the Bible is corrupted because the Koran says so. Okay… If that’s true, then why is it that we have found thousands upon thousands of manuscripts showing this claim to be false?

If you do objective research on Islam and Christianity, you will find that the Koran is riddled with errors and the theology is horrible. Too many to mention here. The important thing is, if a Muslim is looking for information on Christianity, give it to them. Otherwise, let them be on their way. I have found Muslims to be some of the most hateful people in the world and they will not hesitate to kill you in a split second.
