Was manna a type for the Eucharist?

In the Old Testament the manna was given to the Israelites to sustain them. This was bread from Heaven. It was so important that a jar of it was kept in the Ark of the Covenant. Do you think that the manna was a type of the host of the Eucharist? Do you see any similarities?

Yes, of course. Our Lord made this very connection in John 6: 49: “Your fathers ate the manna in the desert and they are dead; but this is the bread that comes done from heaven, so that a man may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that comes down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.”

The first bread was n Old Testament sign of the New Testament bread which was Christ flesh which would nourish for eternity. For more, see:
