- An Angel (from God the Father, bearing HIS message) salutes her calling her
“Full of Grace” and
“Blessed among Women”.
If “Full of Grace” … no sin.
If “Blessed among Women” then why not a graced (from God) sinless beginning like Eve?
- Some people run to the conclusion that THEN she “didn’t need a savior”
2a) … but in her Holy Spirit filled scripture recorded prayer of praise to God in Luke 2
Mary affirms that the Lord IS her savior.
Sometimes she finds Jesus hard to understand and treasures things in her heart. But that is not sinning. It is seeking (and finding).
Jesus of course was sinless. Yet scripture records he was sometimes surprised (as a person who was like us in all ways but sin might be expected to be).
Baseball analogy: Did Mary throw a no-hitter? A perfect game?
My answer: Yes … even if her question " … how could you have done this to us we have been searching for you everywhere … in sorrow … " seems out of the strike zone.
“Did you not know I would be in My Father’s house?” - Reminds me that HE can be found in Church. Where the word is read, and taught authoritatively in the Church HE founded.
Mary should be a point of unity among Christians, never division.
Some think Catholics worship Mary as a Goddess. But they can quickly find out she is not found in the Trinity.
And that the “Hail Mary” prayer came from the Father (Gabriel’s words) and the Holy Spirit (Spirit filled Elizabeth’s words from scripture) an invocation of the Son’s holy name (JESUS, pausing for a bow of the head to acknowledge HIS Divinity) - and THEN a request to Mary to “pray for us” (TO God of course … as she is NOT God but yet a powerful saint).
It’s almost ironic that some “Christians” who avoid Mary emphasize teachings that are BEST embodied in HER.
“Accept Jesus into your life as your Lord” - she was the first. First Christian.
“Walk with Him daily” “Have an intimate relationship with Him” “Serve Him” “Go to Him in Prayer with your requests” “Believe that He has given you power and use it” etc. etc.
Dumbest argument against Mary: ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God!
This Old Testament verse that Paul QUOTES in one of his letters to a Christian Community - was NOT God’s giant finger pointing directly at Mary in condemnation.
For heaven’s sake. Mary was not alive when the OT prophet wrote that. And Paul was not re-writing this in the Spirit to “fix Miss Perfect’s wagon” either.

But you might think so from some of the impassioned scripture reflections one sometimes hears on that verse.
It is generally true and applicable to the rest of us. But the ALL doesn’t apply to Her Son either. Paul and the Old Testament writer were probably addressing people who were in need of humbling or spiritually self-satisfied or deluded into thinking they were already perfect.
People get so mad about this verse that you’d think they had ENMITY with Mary.
God promised there’d be a woman who’d have ENMITY with Satan and vice-versa (HIS doing … it’s in Genesis after the fall of Adam and Eve … and addressed TO them).
Who IS that woman? Start and end with the one the Father declares “Blessed Among Women”.
As for the proper place of Mary in a Christian’s life? We are all different and directed by God to various things according to what part of the Body of Christ we are.
But a good general rule would be:
Make sure your attitude toward Mary is closer to Jesus’ - than Satan’s. < THAT shouldn’t be hard. For those enlightened enough to see a distinction between* THOSE *two.
