Was my missing Sunday Mass in the past a sin?

Hello,
I am a cradle Catholic who only recently has begun to appreciate the gifts and merits of the Church. Because for years I was very lukewarm, there were many occasions on which I missed Sunday Mass (even though I was physically able to attend). I have just learned today that missing Mass is not only a sin but also a mortal one. Do I have to confess these past absences at Mass before I can receive the Eucharist? Thank you for your help!

Hi CF,

Since you didn’t know that deliberately missing Sunday Mass was a mortal sin, it wasn’t a sin for you. So no, you don’t have to confess that before receiving Holy Communion.
