Hi everyone, my friend is recently considering converting to Catholicism and many people including her family are giving her a hard time. One question she asked me is this, “Do Catholics believe that Peter was lifted up at the transfiguration?” I didn’t think he was, but I don’t want to give false teachings. Any help?

What does “lifted up” mean?

Scripture does not reference a lifting up of Peter at the transfiguration. Scripture says that Peter blabbered something about it being good that he was present and making three tents.

Peter was not assumed into Heaven or lifted into heaven, if that is what they are talking about. Catholics don’t believe that. I wonder where people get this stuff.

Yes, please explain what you mean by “lifted up.”

Read about the Transfiguration in Matthew 17:1–9, Mark 9:2-8, Luke 9:28–36
