Hello,
I understand the belief in Papal infallibility only applies to a doctrine or an article of faith decreed by the Pope, not the personal life of the Pope, etc. So, I recently read the speech given Pope Urban II that inaugurated the first Crusade, to which he proclaimed that anyone who took up his call for holy war his sins would be forgiven and that the pending Crusade was “God’s will.”
So my question is then, according to Catholic doctrine, Pope Urban II is infallible in this instance, and is NOT wrong - is this not correct? Please explain. Also, what of the inquisition?
