Was it a good thing that the Soviet Union was dismanted in 1991?

I think its good that the Eastern Bloc countries (Poland,Czechoslovakia, Hungary etc) got their freedom.

But I am not sure it was good the USSR fell.

Instead of embracing Faith and democracy, it seems the Russian federations only main religion became the love of western goods.

It seems such a discouraging and depressing place with ever terrible problem (alcoholism, domestic abuse, crime, prostitution) is rife there.

The USSR even in Perestrokia was far more repressive than it is now.

Still though it seems they basically provided for their people in a way that modern Russia does not, and there was plenty of employment and stability.

So is it good the USSR fell? Is the Russian federation a better, more humane entity than its predecessor?

The fall of the USSR resulted from the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. Beforehand, millions of Christians (mostly Orthodox and Catholic) were repressed, imprisoned, and murdered by communist authorities. The fall of the Soviet Union also came to be through the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Pope Pius XII in 1952 and St. John Paul II in 1984. Our Lady of Fatima prophesized that this consecration would usher in an era of peace, so I would definitely conclude the fall of the USSR to be good.

The countries of eastern europe fell before the USSR.

And Idk how much the consecration helped.

Russia isn’t very religious, and there is tons of abortions, lung cancers and alcoholisms that take place there. So…idk.

Also…i dont beleive there were any mass murders of anyone in the USSR after Stalin died.

Something can be good, without all of its sequelae being good.

It is good for a human being to be born, even if they grow to become a school–bully or a criminal.

In the case of the CCCP, it is good they are gone as a world power. Cold War One is over, the Poles and Ukranians, among others, are free from the grip of an atheist regime, and WW3 is less likely than in the late 1900s.

Sure the Russians missed the path to a better form of governance, but that doesn’t make desovietization a bad thing.

I had just read that over two million people viewed the relics of St. Nicholas that were loaned to Russia by the Vatican. So I am hoping the Russian Orthodox church is
growing.
The last 100 years for Russia has been very challenging.
I would think not being communist anymore would be a good thing.

Yes, absolutely. It was an unalloyed good. Even a brief dip into literature like Solzhenitzen’s Gulag Archipelago will show that. Saint John Paul II cut his spiritual teeth resisting their monstrous Satanic Marxist evil.

Well, the people have more freedom now.

And, the slave labor camps probably have been closed.

Yes. It freed a lot of people from tyranny. It lessened tensions (for a while).
