Was the sinner on the cross next to Jesus saved?

For Protestants that don’t accept baptism to be saved dogma or confession to a priest or authority of the church.

**Here is what they cite as an object:
The sinner on the cross next to Jesus wasn’t baptized or did confession and Jesus said he would be in paradise with Him without those things…plus straight to paradise no purgatory. **

How would a catholic respond?
