For Ash Wednesday I attended a parish that tends to take liberties with the liturgy, and they did something I have never seen at another parish and wasn’t sure what to make of it. They had the Eucharistic prayers in the form of a response. The priest would pray a section of the Eucharistic prayer, and then the people in the pews would sing a little refrain, then he would continue with another section of prayer, then the people would sing another little refrain, etc… This started with the Sanctus andcontinued on all the way up to the Agnus Dei. I didn’t participate in the response because it just seemed a little strange to me. Has anybody heard of this? Is it okay? It was a children’s liturgy, so I don’t know if that kind of thing is permitted at a children’s liturgy.
Also, when you see most of the people around you not following the rubrics of Mass, do you go along with them or do what you know is the right thing to do? I would like to know how people respond to this situation and their reasons they do so. For myself, I tend to do what I know what is supposed to be done because I feel I need to be obedient to God in this matter, but I would like to know what others think about this. Thanks!
