I was talking with my grandparents when I said “Cross Country” and thought of that as a god, I also thought I thought about it a few seconds before. Was this a mortal sin? Also, is there any advice on how to remind myself of God’s love.

I kinda know what you are talking about and no, it’s not. It’s not even intentional. Also to remind yourself of God’s love and to rely on it are two different things. To remind yourself of God’s love is easy. Just remember He loves you. To rely on it is done by not worrying.

No, it is not idolatry. It is an intrusive thought and should be dealt with as such.

M’kay I’m real confused.

So you said the words “cross country” with the same tone of voice that you say “God” and stuff? Or did you say the words “cross country” and then thought to yourself that cross-country was something you wanted to run?

Anyway, you can remind yourself od God’s love by loving other people, or maybe you can get yourself addicted to heroin and come back from the brink, but there are many ways to remind yourself.
