This may not be all that interesting, especially for those that aviod the boob tube.

My wife and I rarely watch TV anymore.

But, on occasion we’ll sit and escape after a long day of work, parenting little ones, etc.

Historically we’ve been fans of those police/lawyer crime drama shows. Law&Order, etc, CSI, etc.

I am absolutely amazed at the content of these shows recently!!!

Is it me, or do almost all of these storylines have to some psycho-sexual element in them?? Porn, rape, incest, mother-killings, father-killings, gay themes, sexual fetishs, etc etc etc

What used to be clever and intriguing shows are now no more than sexual preversion infomercials!

I’ll watch the occasional football game, but for primtime TV, we are not driving the nielsons for that garbage any more!

It is not just you… I don’t know if you ever watch Cold Case on CBS… You just described their last show. They also had one where the victims where underground abortion activist. The where portrayed as being heros. It seems there is less and less of these shows I can watch (I have been known as a Law and Order jukie)… I do like some of the true crime shows on A & E… and, I tend to watch HGTV a lot (but even HGTV has the gay thing all the time).

I like the old “garden variety” L&O shows. I always got such a kick out of Jerry Orbach. I’ll definitely miss him this season. The newer L&O shows, particularly the one that FOCUSES on sexual crimes is pretty sleazy. Plus as you said, shows that focus on pedephilia, sex slavery etc are just disgusting. Sometimes there is way too much sharing of “reality” on TV.

I was also amazed at what passes for drama in NYPD Blue. Yowza, that is one step above porn IMO. And I don’t EVEN know when shows like Friends or Sex in the City are on. I just cannot imagine people watching this stuff but they must be! Yikes. There’s a reason I stay online instead

I tend to more in more myself… I would rather converse with all of you lovely people.

You know, I was just thinking last night that having “CSI” set in Las Vegas makes all that weirdness seem like one more frustrating day at the office. The setting does make the voyeuristic aspect of the show seem more appropriate.

Of course, the whole “who done it” genre rests on murder or crime providing a thrilling form of entertainment. That it used to be proper old ladies and butlers was just window-dressing for being allowed a glimpse into the unsavory side of humanity. (And c’mon guys, I figured out that the “doctor” was the therapist and husband did the murder… doesn’t that count for something?)

Really?? That’s how it ended? huh.

I couldn’t get through CSI, I couldn’t stand the storyline and Grissom’s oh, so rational normalization of transvestites, so I flipped over to Trump.

My problem with CSI…

They did a show based on one of the cases I worked on the murder happend 6 years ago… I was the Victim Advocate for the family, working with them for 3 years. The CSI guy from the local PD sold the idea to the show and they took him up on it. NOBODY contacted the family to let them know… NOBODY contacted the DA who worked on the case the full 3 years either. I found out the Monday before the Thursday the show aired. I called the family immediately. The victim had lived with his grandmother when the crime happend, I contacted her.

The show was very similar to the actual case with minute inconsistancies… The family would have been horrified. One thing that really botherd me is the way they made the victims wonderful grandmother seem so trashy (she was a wonderful person)… and, the victims mom. The show had some story that she was a druggie living out of state and that is why the victim lived with his grandmother… The truth, his mother died from cancer when he was eight. He loved his mother.

It just proved to me that it is all about ratings.

The Grissom character looks at the whole rest of the world as a zoo, full of interesting animals. Besides, if a person couldn’t handle the absolutely over-the-top weird without letting it get to them, they wouldn’t join the Las Vegas police department.

Actually, I’m not sure the police in Kansas are even immune from that. Drugs, too much alcohol, psychiatric problems… people in trouble with the law do some strange things.

Watching stuff like that on TV is like rubber-necking without getting caught or having to impede traffic.

Yes, well, the dramatic license also means that when the CSI teams process a crime scene at night, they never turn on the lights!! The police are called in the middle of the night, and by the shadows in the next scene it appears that they rushed right over and got there at noon. (Aren’t they the night shift?) And obviously, they have about 6 people doing the work of two dozen, so the cast of characters won’t get too long, and doing it in about 1/10 of the time it would take to do. I won’t even get started with the problems with the way the science is done.

They probably changed the nature of the grandmother and mother so the audience would keep them in mind as possible suspects or having some other connection to the crime, or so the audience wouldn’t identify with the family so much that the show would be more upsetting than entertaining. It is unfeeling to have not warned the family and explained the changes, at any rate.

Personally…I like “The Shield” and “The Sopranos”…is that bad?

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who gets tired of all the homosexual couples featured on HGTV. Sheesh. I used to think it was OK for family viewing at any time. My seven year old loves to watch some of the shows with me, but I feel like the older she gets the more I need to switch the channel when these gay men (usually) are featured talking about “their” master bedroom and “their” home. It’s also annoying because of the frequent mention of heterosexual couples moving in together without benefit of marriage. I’ve heard this frequently on “Design on a Dime” and “House Hunters.”

Boyfriend Chuck and Girlfriend Lisa are all geared up to take the next step in their relationship…buying their first home together! Then they show the happily unmarried couple relaxing in their master bedroom sipping wine and playing with their dogs. Yes, let’s showcase the softer side of sin! The one that tastefully decorates the family room!

I did appreciate the one or two episodes in which the voice-over on House Hunters made it clear that the engaged couple featured was buying a house together but that they would not be living together before the wedding. In fact, they mentioned it so many times it was like it they were repeating it because the show’s producers thought it was such a charming novelty!

CSI and assorted crime and forensics clones: I used to love Law & Order, but besides the fact that it is so mind-numbingly formulaic now, I got depressed from hearing so many sad stories and thinking about all the real violence that these stories are based on. Same with CSI and all the rest.

Someone mentioned “The Shield.” My husband and I really liked that show, but I felt like I had to be ready to cover my eyes at least two or three times a show and finally I decided it wasn’t worth it anymore. Good writing, suspenseful plots and interesting actors don’t make up for sadistic or perverted scenes that I have to struggle to forget. So we don’t have that channel anymore, much as I’m curious as to how Vic and his buddies ever managed to get out of their little problem of being in possession of millions of stolen dollars, I won’t rent the DVD when it comes out either.

Got to guard your heart and mind when it comes down to it.

Because I live in a remote area the only thing available is The Dish, so I don’t get a lot of CBS, NBC, etc. From what I have been reading I am spared garbage. There is a lot of “humor” which involves sex, body parts, etc.

If it wasn’t for EWTN on television, and a few shows on Public TV, I’d throw my set in the trash.

I get my news and weather off the internet, I no longer am interested in sports (except a few major golf tourneys). When this one goes, I’ll probably not replace it.

I actually like the Sopranos too. I haven’t seen the show in a while though. I don’t like the sheild.

Yeh, these shows are getting worse and worse. The law and order SVU show is just rediculous. Every crime is a sexual crime.

you are not alone my friend, my spouse and me watch little TV, and see more everyday that makes us want to watch less…

No, there’s a whole lot out there that is growing weary with the tube, and before long, who knows, maybe the dissatisfaction will reach those that sponsor the trash… only then will change happen.

ain’t it a shame?

The same reason I quit subscribing to a number of home and decorating magazines. It seemed the majority of profiled homes were for “Adam and Steve” complete with a tour of the master bedroom and bath with its double size jacuzzi…EWWWW too much information!!!

Lately, I watch **The Apprentice ** (like last season). Good lessons in working with others.

I’m very disappointed in this year’s ER series. It seems to be written with a formula, rather than as good story-telling.

Last season, I liked the show Amish in the City.

It showed folks who have different values… with the folks who had the “good” values to be more honorable.

Its a reality show during which I came to appreciate and prefer some people more than others. Just like in real life.

However, by the time the series ended, I wished that I could know each of them better.

Official Web site - has pictures and bios of each of the people – broken out by the “city folk” and the “Amish folk”. You can click on Bio or Video to read and hear/watch each person talking about themselves for a minute or so.

You mean there’s more on TV other than Spongebob?

Actually, we enjoy watching the old movies and some of the old sitcoms. I realize we stay “sheltered”, but I truly believe that we are happy and watch TV to be entertained and NOT saddled with every ‘unsolvable’ (at least not by us) problem out there.

Once in a while I turn to the main networks…:bigyikes: and quickly run back to EWTN and of course I spend sooo much time here on CA…my second home. I’m growing to love so many of you… some of the nicest people…👍 Annunciata:)

p.s. can’t throw out my hubbie’s new 60" HD tv though…sports and stuff.
