Opening scene in cemetery: a Crucifix. Then a hanged man. Then a lecture hall with skeletons. A discussion among three people with skulls in the background.

This movie is about death as much as life.

The disruption of a wedding (=start of a family). “I know what it’s like to BE God!”

The mad doctor is quite pro-choice.

“It”: they call the creature “it”, they same thing the pro-choice people call a fetus.

Of course the film is about death. It is the goal of overcoming death via science.

I would imagine feature films were shorter then to make time for the newsreels.

Watched the film, but wasn’t aware of this thread.

Running times of films from that era varied, Most of the Universal horror films from this period ran about 70-75 minutes. The trailer for Bride of Frankenstein implied a 2 hour run time but was only an hour and fifteen minutes. Son of Frankenstein ran an hour and forty five minutes.

TCM will be hosting a big screen showing of Universal’s Dracula in October.
