Watching horror and thriller movies

I am a great fan of these types of movies. Am I sinning by getting so much to like them? I’m not addicted though.
 
Horror movies are not intrinsically evil, so it is not a sin to watch one just because you are watching one. What you must look at are your intentions. Why do you watch them? What do you gain from these movies? Is it healthy? Is it destructive? Does it bring you closer to sin?

Only you can answer these questions. I think for the vast majority of horror movie fans, it is not a sin to watch them. I don’t see it as very different from any other genre of movie when it comes to morality. I ask the above questions about all activities with which I’m uncertain.

Personally, I’ve never seen the appeal of horror movies. 🤷
 
watching horror movies are different experience for me. Because whenever i watch horror i am entertain my self to much. I like it very much. I have seen lot of horror movies like halloween and paranormal activity such a amazing movies.
 
People watch these movies because they want to familiarize themselves with what Hell will be like.

Um, I don’t think simply enjoying horror movies is a sin. I’m a huge horror movie junkie, this has had no impact on my spiritual or personal life. If you find them arousing, or find yourself fantasizing and fixating on violence, then it would probably be considered a problem.
 
I find that most horror movies have a lot of stuff in them that we shouldn’t be watching. I have not spent a lot of time watching that genre, so I imagine there are some out there without a sexual under current. As the above posters have said, if you are just enjoying the thrill of it and not watching it for the wrong reasons, then have at it.

Just make sure you aren’t watching it for the wrong reasons.
 
As another person said, you need to look at your motives behind wanting to watch the horror movies.

That said, I have never been a fan of horror movies. They just creep me out too much.
 
I think it depends on the movie and the viewer.

I do love a good ghost story in the vein of M. R. James.
I love Susan Hill’s ghost stories such as The Woman in Black.

You can always check your films by the USCCB at old.usccb.org/movies/index.shtml

But it really comes down to you and your personal choice.

Be informed.

But there are plenty of morally bankrupt films that are not obscene such as the film The Music Box (Jessica Lange is wonderful in the lead though).
 
It depends upon what you mean by “horror” and by “thriller”. Movies, music, novels, and other forms of media, art, and entertainment must be benchmarked against the virtues.

Many *thrillers *of old are not morally problematic. In fact, some even have a moral to the story.

But, those completely devoid of any morality-- such as “Saw” and other movies-- that have no purpose other than to show gore, torture, and shock would not be something one should patronize. Others have sexual content that is inappropriate. They are, in essence pronography. They are morally offensive and lack any virtue at all.

So, in some cases, yes the genre of thriller or horror would be morally offensive and sinful to partonize. In other cases, no.

And, one should have a well formed conscience to watch such material in the first place.
