I am so far beyond outraged that I am afriad to speak right now, have anyone else seen the new “Safe Auto” advertistment. They have now crossed into the line into openly mocking our Holy Mother Church, they are clearly mocking the sacrament of reconciliation.
Here’s a rundown on what happened, there is a woman in the confessional with the priest and at the point the askes her if there is anything else she goes into a laundry list of “venial sins” that appear to go on forever, during this you see shots of the priest checking his watch, then comes the real kicker, you see father wearing a headset attached to a CD player, and of course their voice over saying “when all you really want is the minimum”.
I ran a quick search on the net to see if I could locate information on their headquarters, but I didn’t have any luck. I did call their 800 number but all they could give me is an address where you mail in payments, she didn’t even know who is the CEO. If anyone has this information please post it so we can complain where it will be most effective.

Almeria,

Thank you! I would like to clarifly a couple of items in my original post. First is the “laundry list”, the things she added to her “confession” were 12 items in the 10 or less checkout lane in the store, crossing against the light, etc.
The second is why I choose to post this in the family section, I believe that other members who could be in the market for auto insurance should know who this company apparently veiws catholics, and the sacraments of our Holy Mother Church.
If you are a client of this company please let them know how you feel about this, I’m certainly going to, and I can say now that they will never get my business.

I am glad you posted. I typically avoid most “regular” television channels. Still I would like to not deal with companies that are either flat out in conflict with our Church – those who give big dollars to planned parenthood are among them. Progressive Insurance is one of those.

Now I have two insurance companies to avoid. Safe Auto and Progressive.

How does one go about finding out what companies support and where they give the “big dollars”?

This would be good information for all of us to have.

If I were to learn that a company I work for supports Planned Parenthood, where would I go to suggest they shift funds to places like Birthright instead?

Oh, and mamamull, just as an aside…the font you use really makes it appear as though you’re yelling all the time. I know by reading your posts this is not true, but I can’t help but flinch when I see the large, bright words. (Please don’t be offended! Some people have this reaction to CAPS) :blessyou:

Mamamull & JCPhoenix,

Mamamull, thanks for the infro on Progressive, knowing this I am glad I no longer do business with them. I try to be very selective about the programing I watch, normally I watch EWTN, some Travel Channel, Food Network, limited USA and Bravo channels and extermely limited NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX. Some of the commercials are more disturbing than the programs they are supporting.
JCPhoenix, you have asked a very good question, one I would also like to know the answer to. At one time consumers had real power to influence corporate behavior, when we spoke up, told them they would loose our business in mass they listened. These days it appears they could care less.

Consumers still have that power, and as employees of various companies, we also have the power to influence from within if we can find out what they support.

The catch is that although some companies support things many people morally do not, they DO also support many families who in turn take those moneys and support their churches and GOOD charities. Sort of holy money laundering!

We can’t control everything and really, because of our capitalism, a few othodox Catholics who choose not to do business with certain companies will really not affect anything at all. That’s not to say that companies can’t change from within through a little education or even a suggestion to split the funds.

For example, if I could influence my company to spend 50% of its contribution to things like PP into Birthright (for some reason I can’t think of any others!), then that is a step in the right direction.

I KNOW my employer must support things I morally disagree with, but at the same time, I also know that many good people work for the company, some of whom are orthodox Catholics or other Christians with similar moral beliefs. We can’t always choose our employers because let’s face it: the market is not good, we all gotta eat…and we can accomplish more through prayer than the largest company fully supporting the most immoral of organizations.

But that’s not to say that we shouldn’t do what we can to influence where those contributions are spent!

I hope you all understood what I was trying to say…it’s late, my brain is fried , and I’m going to sleep!

G’night and God Bless! 😃

I did a little research today through people I know.

I don’t think it’s public info since it’s an employee program, but Progressive, like many companies, has a percent-match program for charitable donations. So the employee has to fill out a form or something and actually PAY more than $25 towards Charity X, and the company has pledged to match whatever amount.

It seems that with that sort of program a company would HAVE to give to the charity of the employee’s choice. Not to do so would not be ethical…so given that sort of system one needs to do what we already are trying to do…reach people at their own individual level so that they/we/everyone can work on the larger changes.

Thanks for that link…I’m going to check it out!
