What ways are there to evangelise correctly and perhaps what venues are the best places to conduct it?

I think the best way to evangelize is to be a joyful, loving Christian. Be open about your faith with those who are interested, but don’t try to force it on people who aren’t interested.

Follow what Christ said: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven”.

There is a Catholic group called St. Paul Street Evangelization that is very active in the New Evangelization. The website is here:

I have not become involved with this group myself, but have admired their efforts. They have literature that they hand out just like the Protestant Evangelicals and speak with people directly. I think it is very important to speak specifically about Christ as well as trying to act in a Christian manner.

That is easy for me to say but unfortunately my own efforts at evangelization have been pretty dismal. l had the idea when I was younger that teaching people about the wonders of biology, especially biochemistry, would convince them there must be a God, and to go from there about Christ. Amazingly, people can look at the most complex of biological systems and be totally unmoved. This is in line with what Paul said a long time ago in Romans:
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
So Creation shows that it is obvious there is a God but in both the old and present days people rejected that idea.

I think it is very important to not give up. Even one soul is worth our efforts. We also need to pray for each other for strength and wisdom to do this most important of works.

These are great replies, I’m almost out of likes for today so I’ll just say thank you sincerely for your suggestions.

I look at evangelism two ways: (1) something you purposely set out to do, say at 3:00 PM on Tuesdays, or (2) every minute of your life. Both have their place. I am more comfortable with #2, trying to live my life as an example of Christ and His love, sharing my faith when appropriate. Of course, you can combine the two which is probably the best!

At the end of Mass my priest usually says “now go and announce the gospel of The Lord.” How am I meant to understand that? Is this an encouragement to evangelise?

It certainly sounds like it. Since he says it so often he would probably be happy to talk about it with you if you asked.

I’ve heard of the legion of Mary, if you are a member is there a strong emphasis on evangelising?

Legion of Mary is apparently a very large Catholic organization with an emphasis on evangelizing (I guess either a “z” or an “s” in the word “evangelize” can be correct so I’ll continue using what I am used to).

I had never heard of Legion of Mary until I read a thread on CAF about it and I am not a member. However, you might be interested in reading the thread I read so I looked it up and put the link to it below. I believe at least one poster on that thread, MariaChristi, is still an active member at CAF. I am sure she would not mind being contacted by PM if you wanted to ask her about the organization. The thread that I will link you to has 15 posts and gives you an idea of personal experiences of those who are / were members. It is at:

https://forums.catholic-questions.org/t/legion-of-mary-info-please/426115

One thing about that thread though is that they have a link to Legion of Mary that doesn’t work (legionofmary.com). The current link that I have found to the website is:

I hope this helps. Your priest or other church members may know if there is a group that meets near you so that you may learn more.
