Hi everyone. What are some good ways to evangelize without having to spend any money? I want to spread my faith but I don’t know how to do that very well. I post on many different forums and tell the truth about Jesus and the Catholic Church to those who don’t know the truth and to non-Catholic Christians. However, other than that, I don’t really know how to spread my faith without spending money on some tracts or something. I don’t have any money to spend so I don’t really know what to do. Any suggestions? 🤷

I have done more evangelizing on Facebook than I could have imagined. I post the current Catholic news that many friends would never come accross, have encourage them to join urgent campaigns, educate them about Saints and find all sorts of ways to use Facebook to evangelize. The great aspect of Facebook is that it is posted on the update so even if they do not go to your page and read it ~ they will see it when they open up their page and read the updates on their list of friends. So if you are on Facebook it is a great way to continue to evangelize without spending a penny.

May God bless your desire!

Thanks for this tip! I will definitely consider using Facebook to evangelize! 👍

They’ll know you’re Christian by your love.

Preach the Gospel, and if you have to use words. (Saint Francis of Assisi, I think)

Don’t get into a debate with anyone unless you know your Faith completely, because many Protestants are specially trained to convert unprepared Catholics. Read my post in “This Rock”.

Somewhere else on this Forum I found a link to this new website of the Vatican’s, which includes a Facebook application. Using it, you can send postcards to friends and see and share messages from the pope: www.pope2you.net/index.php?id_testi=4

There is an iPhone application too.

Here is a small part of the message at the website from the Pope: “…Be sure to announce the Gospel to your contemporaries with enthusiasm.”

Blogs are free, and many use theirs for apologetics, or personal ‘testimonies’ for Christ and His Church. Blogspot.com can get you a free blog, and you can link to St. Blog’s Parish Directory and get plugged into the online Catholic Community.

The Pope2You link in the above post has some good online aps and sites, including the Vatican’s YouTube channel. A lot of YouTube is very anti-Catholic, so defending The Faith there too doesn’t cost anything but is a good way to get the truth out there. (Pope2You is also linked in today’s update in my blog, Generation Catholic, in my signature)

Praying in public, especially the rosary, can open up conversations. This company also lets you download Catholic ring tones for a few dollars, which can get some conversations going.

Join the Legion of Mary.

In the Legion you do 2 hours a week minimum in pairs mainly home to home evangelisation. This involves starting 1 end of a street knocking on each door till you get to the other end. Your pour your soul into that of the visitor, you pray, you exhort, you love them as Mary loved her son.

If you don’t join the Legion of Mary there is no way that you will be disciplined enough to spend 2 hours speaking to random souls about the faith.

God sometimes puts people in my path and obviously I try and give a good example but it is absolutely essential for me to be in the Legion. There are guys behind doors in your street just waiting to be invited to become Catholic or return to the faith!

The Legion also gets you doing street contact, lapsed Catholic visiting, contacting people in cemetaries and all kind of stuff.

St Paul said Faith comes from hearing- we need people to speak the faith and not just to teens and guys in our sphere but to every single person behind every door- they all have souls, they are all destined for eternity of one kind or the other and your visit could change which one it will be!

Yes thats true. It is really difficult to evangelize without spending money. I hope someone out there could give us the idea how to do it without getting a hole in our pocket. Right now we started with hospitality, giving coffee, cookies, tea, bread, juice, etc. after mass to the parishioners still you gonna spend for all these. I do appreciate your response on this.

Here’s an idea:
if your public library has any good Catholic-themed DVDs like " A Man for All Seasons", or if you already belong to something like Netflix, you can have a movie night at your place. You can just invite someone over & then talk about the story or throw a potluck with friends and then discuss the movie afterwards.

Hi Holly, GREAT question!
  1. Know you’re faith well. The Catholic Bible, the Catechesim. the Catholic Encycopedia are all available on the NET.
  2. LIVE you’re faith boldy, humbly, and faithfully. Defend it when the HS gives you the opportunity.
  3. Pray, pray, and pray some more:thumbsup:
  4. Be active on this Forum
Love and prayers

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice! I will definitely consider joining the Legion of Mary. 👍 I was a probationary member (I think that’s what they call prospective members) a while back but I quit because I was too lazy to do some of the work that they do. However, I have a new motivation to get out there and do something right and so I may very well do that. The only problem is going to be gas. I am already a new (just signed up today) scheduled adorer at the perpetual adoration chapel. My parish is in another town besides the town I live in so I have to drive about 13 or 14 miles to get there. That is where the Legion of Mary meetings are held and where the adoration chapel is as well.

Get in touch with the Fatima Center (www.fatima.org). They will send you all the literature you can distribute, plus kits for making Rosaries and scapulars, at no cost.

excellent question and excellent discussion topic

begin with service in any way, shape or form
the most effective evangelization tool ever devised

the other effective way is simply to speak up and not be ashamed to live your faith-wear the cross, carry the rosary, respond to uncharitable comments about Catholics and their beliefs in a reasonable tone with accurate information, and above all to show Christian love and charity in all your dealings. make the moral decision w/o preaching but answer if somebody asks a questions.

No, I don’t plan to go to that movie with you guys tonight.
Why, it has great reviews and the actor is such a stud.
Well I have read the reviews and seen the trailers, and it sounds like it is a depressing story about unsavory characters doing immoral things, and it just does not sound entertaining or rewarding. I’d rather spend my time and money on something more fun.

We have been very fortunate here at Sacred Heart Parish in Boise, ID. We have annual evangelization retreats and we have a travelling team that goes to other parishes in the US and helps put one on in that parish. I have never seen such a change in people as I have seen after just one of these retreats. And the change in my love, I will never be able to thank our Lord enough.
Others ways were mentioned above - the one about evangelizing or taking Jesus to others and if you have to then use words. A simple smile to someone, holding a door open to someone, offering to help someone with their groceries - these are ways to evangelize others also.
We are to take the light of Christ to others - if we cannot do this individually, then we can reflect the light to those we cannot reach one on one.

I use myspace, facebook, and blogger aswell. You don’t even have to approach them in conversation they will approach you based off of something you post. A good number of people have emailed me who never comment on the things I write and tell me that they have read everything I posted. The first person to confront me about things I posted was from clear across the US and he was attacking the faith at which time I dispelled the misconceptions and shared the truth.
Some other things you can do for evangelism that will cost a couple bucks that you can do is: 1 If you have Catholic Radio in your area make a bumpersticker of the radiostation.
The radio station in my area is Living Bread Radio so my sticker says “Living Bread Radio AM 1060 The Truth for Northeast Ohio” in three lines. Many People see bumper stickers and people will be curious about the truth for northeast ohio part. You can get them printed online however you want it for like 4 bucks. My goal is to get them hook on the radio station before they find out it is catholic because that is how I coverted. I got hooked on Catholic Answers before I knew it was catholic because I didn’t paticular care for the Catholic Church at the time which seems to be the norm in this culture.
2 get a t-Shirt printed with the radio station or anything else you want. It has been said that a t-shirt will be viewed by 3000 people in it’s life time. I got my tshirt printed at a sports shop for 17 bucks.
