Maybe he wanted to work or needed to work. Some people need to keep busy to settle their mind. How about looking at the beauty in the situation though.

Parents have successfully campaigned for mandatory leave here after the death of a child. Thankfully.
As someone who’s built in an immediate start of going back to “normal” as a part of my grieving process and dealing with deaths, to have it be mandatory for me to take off after a death would be the worst thing possible for me. I sure hope “mandatory” in this sense is that it’s mandatory for an office to accept leave after a death of a child and not that it’s mandatory for the person grieving to take it.

This reminds me of what I heard a priest say once about how God hides certain wisdom from adults and gives it to small children

Sadly, that is not part of US workforce. The best of employers will give a few days of bereavement leave, however, someone who is delivering pizzas is someone who likely does not have a benefits package. If they don’t work, they cannot pay bills.

I agree, we ought all be more compassionate and demonstrate our kindness. It is a tragedy that hugs have become something many children have been taught to fear 😦
