Is it a MORTAL sin? : My wife and I were involved in an act of foreplay and it went to far, we had an “accident” before the marital act was done, this was NOT our intention, we had every intention of completing the marital act. We are both very upset about this and applied the 3 conditions to a mortal sin and we can’t determine if we sinned mortally. What should we do?

Happens to most couples sooner or later. If there was no intent and it was an accident, chalk it up to experience and don’t worry about it. You obviously, unless your fibbing, did not give free consent.

“Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent.”

Grave Matter - yes

Full Knowledge - yes

Deliberate consent - no

Not mortal.

Even if you had intended to do it. Just go to confession. That’s what it’s there for.

We will sin from time to time. That’s why we have confession. Just remember to always have hope.

It’s good that it makes you worry.

When you try not to sin by will power and faith, it can be very hard. Faith can make you go without sinning for a long time. What I could not accomplish in a day, faith has brought me through weeks and months even. The best thing to to do is to try to overcome the sin with acts of good. Not because you HAVE to, to be forgiven. Because you know you have forgiveness, so why not.
