I believe Sen. Rick Santorum was responsible for converting Sen Sam Brownback to Catholicism while in the Senate. Now Sen Sam Brownback is one of the greatest proponents of Pro-Life legislation in the Senate.

We Need His Kind
In praise of Rick Santorum.

Friday, November 3, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST

It has been hard not to experience the election as a brute-force clash between two armies struggling over terrain their soldiers have come to see, inevitably–they are at war, they are exhausted–as the location of the battle, but not its purpose. The nation is where the contest takes place; you can forget, in the fight, that its actual future is what’s being fought for.

But here’s an exception: the state of Pennsylvania, which has been this year a bright patch of meaning. Its U.S. Senate contest has been the great race of the cycle, the one about which conservatives in their hearts most care. And not only conservatives, but those who know, for whatever reason and in whatever way, that there is something truly at stake here, something beyond mere red team and blue.

That would be Sen. Rick Santorum. The sense among so many people–including politicians and journalists–is that the Senate needs his sort, his kind.

And Bob Casey is just as pro-life. Noonan to be sure carries water for GOP candidates, fine, but there are two pro-lifers in the race, and Santorum is tied to the failures of the GOP for the last 6 years. I’d give the nod to Casey myself.

Do you actually think I intend to check your references or respond after the insult?
You know you lost the argument and that’s why you will not confirm you already checked my links. Have a good day!

Are you speaking of former Governor Bob Casey? If so then yes, he was certainly pro-life. (I’m formerly from Pa until 5 years ago)

Don’t be so sure Cardinalsong. One of the Nebraska senators claims to be prolife (Ben Nelson) but he has contributed money to prochoice candidates, including Claire Caskill of Missouri (Sp?) who supports embryonic stem cell research. He also gave money or support to Tom Daschle, another proabortion Democrat.

I like RIck Santorum. He’s a devout Catholic and he’s 100% prolife on the issues. He’s been a voice for the unborn. If I lived in PA, I would vote for him.

Actually Richard he’s not. Not even close in fact.

A reason NOT to Vote for Bob Casey, Jr?

He campaigned for extremely pro abortion John Kerry. Who voted AGAINST the Partial Birth Abortion Ban!

John Kerry, the CINO that says “I was an altar boy” during the Presidential Debates back in 2004.

Believe it or not, there alot of serious pro-life Catholics in PA who feel betrayed by Santorum from the 2004 race. And some of them are just plain refusing to vote. In 2004 Santorum opposed pro-life Toomey and supported Specter. (pro anything) It was sort of a deal with the devil kind of thing. His rationale was that keeping specter would help win other important votes in the future.

I asked once and will ask again: IS voting for Santorum actually pro-life or not, since he garaunteed another 6 years of pro-death Specter?

A a PA voter, I am at this time: totally underwhelmed by Casey and generally distrustful of Santorum, (but I DO like Peggy Noonan)

I love Rick Santorum. I am so sad about his grim numbers and have been praying for him. I love that story that the always fabulous Peggy Noonan reported. Santorum is a straight shooter who lives his faith right out there in public. I think he is a courageous man who has enough vision to see the big picture. We should all pray for more Catholic politicians like him!

Do you really want to put the fate of pro-life judges in the hands of the Party of Death?

That’s interesting. Who was Toomey?

I don’t understand. Is this question an answer to my question?

I guess I don’t know the judges you’re talking about or how they will be impacted bythis election.

I think the comment about judges is referring to possible prolife supreme court judge nominees. Its possible before President Bush’s 2nd term ends that another Justice will retire. We need as many UP votes for ProLife judges as is possible. We don’t want a fillibuster for a good nominee. This is for any judge of course, but we need another prolife type judge for the supreme court if we EVER want to overturn R vs. W.

Does that help? 🙂

I hear ya, Max…I & most of my PA family feel this way. If the stakes weren’t so high in other aspects of the direction the country is moving in, I’d have a much harder time voting for Santorum.

But I’m voting based on the facts in front of me now, not what may or may not come in the next several years. I think we have to take it one election at a time, and pray hard & get politically active in between each one.

Yes, I’m still mad that he backed Spector, but I’m not willing to exchange Santorum’s otherwise solid reputation for a fledgling perpetual candidate like Casey, who…oh, don’t get me started!😛

Yes and no, I think:o

I mean, I watched Specter on Cspan stand there with giant placards containing the many dozens of reasons Roe v Wade cannot be overturned. ( I think it was the Alito confirmations)

So, this is who Santorum backed. Someone who could fillibuster or oppose a judge who would overturn R vs W.
(but if I know Specter - it will be backroom dealings and someone else doing the opposing at his bidding)

Alito and Robert both made it through the Judiciary committee with the help of Specter.-this would not have been true if the Democrats had been in control.

Lets not cut off our noses to spite our face.
