To all my brothers and sisters on the forum. PLEASE keep Texas and it’s residents in your prayers. Rita is looking to be an exteremely nasty storm. My family and I plan to bunker down here in Houston but we are still nervous about staying. The problem is where do you go? Please say a rosary or Our Father for us that our lord will give us comfort during this time of need and that he will protect us from harm!

Beckers im heading for Austin tomorrow, we are not gonna risk it, they said this could be worse than the storm of 1900. I will pray for you and your family, everyone please pray for our families safety and for our homes to be spared. I dont know what to take with me and what to leave behind, this is so hard. Please pray for us.

I am remembering you folks there. I have a penpal in San Antonio who won’t bear the brunt of Rita, but there could still be some nasty tornadoes and thunderstorms for her to worry about just the same.

And, while I admire your bravery, you really ought to head for Austin or some other inland city. Possessions can be replaced, but people can’t. Please, please, please! Get out while you can!!!
 
God Bless all my fellow Texans…I don’t live there now, but I once did…“Once a Texan, Always a Texan”…You are all in my prayers…Please seek shelter and get out of the dangerous path of this storm…I do have a gut feeling this storm may turn towards the North and hit us here in LA again…I pray it doesn’t…I pray it turns around completely and doesn’t harm anyone. God Bless you…you are in my prayers and I will be the first to offer support when it hits…God Bless, Sonny

Beckers, go inland. DO NOT chance the storm will miss you. It is too dangerous. Praying for you and yours.
 
I agree, get out of its path. Go some place large, a huge buiding that is built to withstand hurricane force winds if you stay. (Even that doesn’t always work out well though, as we all can see.) So, go inland, stay at a cheap motel or with relatives elsewhere. We are keeping all of you in our prayers, just take your rosaries and your Bible and your insurance papers with you and some clothes to change into.) There are washers and dryers everywhere you go. If not, take about a week’s change of clothes.
Perhaps you could take a neighbor who can’t go without help?!
 
Thanks for all your prayers. I am as far inland as I am problem going to be able to go. I actual live in Houston but am heading to my mom’s in sugarland. It doesn’t flood and not too many trees and stuff. Her house is more stable then my apartment and I don’t want to wade out the storm by myself. I am packing up everything I can and storing it on my my 2nd floor incase the roof on the 3rd story goes.

My problem about leaving is my cats and my family.Could care less about my car or possessions. Looked at trying to get a motel out of town (dallas, SA, Austin) but everything is taking by LA residence or companies renting out huge blocks of rooms or other houstonians.We are going to see where the storm turns tonight.We are mostly worried about the winds. Heard that in Houston we will get about 110 115 mile hour winds.

We do know that our beach house is going to be destoryed since it is a block from the ocean and close to where the eye should make landfall so we went down today and cleaned it out.

Just keep praying. I know that’s what I am going to be doing. I’ve got a couple of good relgious books and a flashlight that hopeful will keep me occuiped during the storm.

Beckers be safe! You know the area of town you live in and what it can handle. All of us from that area know how rains just dump on us hours on end. We had a storm (not tropical or hurricane) about 10 years ago which dumped 20" of rain in 3 days. If you’re prone to flooding you know when to leave. If you have tons of trees in your yard (we do) you know it’s time to leave.

Beckers, why do you have to leave your cats and family behind?
Some motels will take pets. Maybe there is a shelter that will take them. If you have to leave them you have to leave plenty of water and food, you might not be able to make it back for days. Why are some of your family members staying behind? I do pray they will stay safe.
 
Be not afraid!

Make sure you have batteries for the following: Flashlights, AM/FM radio, and a clock.

Do you think a vet nearby would be able to watch your cats there, provided they are able to and they have a strong building?

Put valuables in ziplock tight bags, to prevent important paper, that you can’t take, are safe and dry. Maybe pack things in a tightly packed closet. Smaller areas will hold up much better than a larger room like a bed room. (That’s the advice we have when tornadoes are near…to go to a small interior room)…so if you are worried about some valuables. Pack them in plastic bags and pack them int he most interior part of the house.

Please use common sense and keep safe. I will be bunkered down about 15 miles or so inland. Bur then I am in a good bunker.
 
Thank you for all your prayers. I am still deciding weather to leave or not. We are in Sugarland (ft bend county) and no warning has been issued for us. I have an offer from a friend in San Antonio but I don’t know if my cats can go the estimated 6 to 7 hours it is going to take to get there since all freeway are packed. It is taking people almost 10 hours for galveston to the woodlands. Plus Houston is running out of gas and I only have a little over 3/4 of a tank which may not be enough. I am not too worried about the flooding because i don’t leave near the coast or a flood plan but i am worried about the wind. They are now saying it’s 175mph winds and the storm has switched to come more in towards freeport which means houston is going to get more of a direct hit. If it is not bad enough that we get wind and rain we are now going to get tornado’s…I hope my mom’s brick house can with stand the winds. I will try to keep you all updated but we don’t know at what time the power here in houston is going to go out. i figure late Friday as soon as we start geting TPS winds.
