No, Christianity is the only one which would fit that description.
I don’t know about that. I wish one of our resident Baha’is would chime in, because I’m pretty sure the first followers of Baha’u’llah, who were just as much witnesses to the founding of that religion, who believe that Baha’u’llah is the Messiah, also suffered immense persecution in the 19th century Middle East.

I was focused on this phrase:

“Do you know another religion where people over and over were killed when all they had to say was no Jesus did not raise from the dead?”

Christianity IS the only religion where denial of Jesus’ resurrection might result in someone being spared execution.

Other religions may have similar issues with THEIR leaders…but not Jesus.

No offense, but duh! 😃

Otherwise the poster was just fishing for a specific answer. Of course only Christianity satisfies that quality, but your original question was obviously more broad than that.

“Do you know another religion where people over and over were killed when all they had to say was ‘No Baha’u’llah is not the fulfillment of all the major world religions’ chosen one?”

I know. I was just having fun with that post. Sorry for any confusion. 😛

The sources for the apostles being martyred do not appear until hundreds of years afterwords or even from the middle ages, and the earliest accounts such has Hippolytus have many dying natural deaths.

Hmmmm

No

There are many references in the NT

Not true.
The book of Acts depicts James’ martyrdom. Clement of Rome says that St. Peter suffered martyrdom (although he doesn’t give specifics).

Yeah, that is only 2 of the 12
We also know early on that John was poisoned and left in exile on Patmos,

Stephen was stoned

Paul was imprisoned and executed

Peter was imprisoned in Rome as well.

There is no reason to doubt they were in fact at least punished and tortured and in many cases killed.

sources?

Stoning of Stephen - Acts 7:54-60

Paul and Silas in prison Acts 16:16-40

Paul taken to Rome to appeal to Caesar for his life as a roman citizen
Acts 28

Irenaeus of Lyons (2nd century) tells us Paul was martyred

Peter in prison - Acts 12

Peters Death:

Clement of Rome, in his Letter to the Corinthians (Chapter 5), written c. 80–98, speaks of Peter’s martyrdom in the following terms: “Let us take the noble examples of our own generation. Through jealousy and envy the greatest and most just pillars of the Church were persecuted, and came even unto death… Peter, through unjust envy, endured not one or two but many labours, and at last, having delivered his testimony, departed unto the place of glory due to him.”

John banished to Patmos : Rev 1:9

But would Paul count, even if he was martyred? Remember the argument is about people who lived with Jesus, the ones that ate and drank with him. Paul only encountered Jesus in a vision.

I believe Paul would count.

He saw Jesus before he was crucified and was very familiar with him. I would say it was more than a vision. More of an encounter with the risen Christ.

But there are plenty of other examples so whatever people want!
