Does anybody else experience a deadening to stop trying to sin when they have committed a mortal sin? Between the space of the sin and getting to confession, it feels like there is little to no point in resisting sin because there is such a weak motivation and it feels like ‘What’s even the point?’ I struggle with this and although I know that we shouldn’t continue to sin because of time spent in purgatory being increased, the damage and destruction of the mortal sin seems to out-do any other reasoning.

Does anyone have any advice to combat this?

To combat it, get to confession ASAP. Make an appointment with your parish.

Understand this is despair talking and refuse to give in.

While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Try to focus on desiring to do God’s will. He deserves all our love. The fathers sent His only Son to suffer and die for us. Yes we are weak but ask God for forgiveness and forgive yourself and continue. The desire to love God is stronger than fear of punishment!

… ‘What’s even the point?’ …
Ideally after mortal sin one makes an immediate act of contrition, and hopefully it is perfect. If more sin follows, there are more consequences the follow from them: more reparation and temporal punishment.

Why you think that? If you think you can now commit more sin before confession because it doesn’t matter anymore then I believe it’s called sin of presumption, so you have to confess that too.
