Wearing Jeans In Church

I wouldn’t mind if the priests gave up their finery. I think scripturally speaking, dressing modestly is important, but not dressing “up.” I won’t argue this point as it appears to be a matter of opinion.

I don’t like our President, so I sure wouldn’t dress up for him. I’m surprised no one mentioned the girl’s volleyball team who visited the President in their best flip flops.

Alot of people went to see John Kerry and thought so much about him that they WAVED their flip-flops at him !

I live in Southern California, and I love it that you can wear whatever you like, and no one will stare at you cross eyed. At my church you will see men in coats and ties, jeans and t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts and shorts, women in dresses with heels, stylish skirts and blouses, jeans and a t-shirt, shorts, whatever. I’ve even seen a few girls in pajamas, a few kids in sports uniforms, and a couple of small girls dressed in princess costumes. It really doesn’t matter. We don’t go to mass to impress anyone. We don’t go to mass to judge anyone. We go to mass to worship God, to thank Jesus for His sacrifice, and to join together as believers, as members of the One Body. If you are so busy worrying about what you or others are wearing, then you aren’t giving Jesus the attention and respect He deserves.

It’s best to merely consider your OWN attire rather than others.

We are called to proclaim Christ to the world, to live our lives in such a way that people notice we are different and want to know why! How we dress for mass DOES tell others something about what importance we place on it.

IMO, each person should decide what to wear to a meeting with his Creator.

Personally, I almost never wear a suit and tie. I consider them a prison uniform I am forced to wear sometimes for work and social obligations, not a mark of honor or respect. I have worn clean neat jeans and a plain color T shirt and felt no shame. Mostly, I wear dress pants and a short sleeve collared shirt. I’d personally be embarassed to go to mass in shorts. Neat, clean, respectful, not showy.
