I come from a Muslim background so I love that Catholics also believe in head coverings during mass. I would like to veil during mass but I am not yet a catholic. I attend mass regularly and am constantly learning, just not have started the process of converting. Am I allowed to veil in mass?

You are absolutely allowed to veil during Mass as someone about to enter the Church. Just a heads-up though, unless you’re at a very conservative parish, you may get some odd looks. Don’t let that discourage you. 🙂
Welcome to CAF, and to the Church

Of course you are! Given your background you might even find it makes you more comfortable. Even in our small parish we have women and girls who veil.

Great! I will look into buying one. I’m not sure when I will convert officially since family is an issue, but my heart is definitely there!!

Others gave you the right answer about the veil before I got here 😉 but I wanted to share my prayers and best wishes as you move toward conversion. I know family issues can be tough to navigate. God bless you!

Well, we’ll be praying for you.

I hope you’ll stick around- CAF is a great place 🙂

You are free to wear a head covering of any kind you’d like (there’s really no such thing as ‘veiling’ for lay Catholic women). You’re also free not to wear anything on your head – it is incorrect to say that you ‘should,’ or that it is somehow more respectful or pious to cover your head than not.

Welcome! Looks like many have already answered. You are welcome to join us as a non-Catholic in whatever way you feel comfortable-- Mass, prayers, reading and studying scripture, singing, wearing a head covering- or not, etc. Pretty much the only thing you can’t do yet is receive the sacraments. May God bless you and your journey of faith and help you overcome any obstacles in place. Praying for you 🙂

Many non Catholic Christian women cover their heads for their equivalent of Mass or private prayer.

Please join the congregation of those of us who veil.

Yes, you may use head coverings at mass.

God bless

You can veil in Mass.

It’s not required for Catholic women to veil, and there is no Church rule about it.
Those who do so are just doing it as a personal choice.
So a non-Catholic can similarly make the choice to veil or not veil.

This needs to be stressed. Some Catholics may tell you that you “should” or that it is more “reverent” to do so.
It’s important to understand that they are speaking from their own personal opinion, not giving the teachings of the Church.
