Just added a new community – the Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They are part of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham.

Before anyone jumps my case about being prejudiced against unhabited religious
You will not get that from me. I firmly believe religious should wear a habit. St. John Paull II thought the same.

I have a Yahoo group dedicated to the Religious Habit. We don’t permit grousing, though. I started the group so that an internet friend could share with me a pic of the original habit of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary (“The Nun’s Story” congregation).

My own congregation has several forms of dress, as per Vatican II, which said “clothing appropriate to the ministry.” We have the two forms of distinctive garb – high and low; civvies; and incognito. One of our Poustiniki engages in Sidewalk Counseling, and they follow a rule of not showing any religious affiliation. Therefore, she goes incognito.

Familial circumstances have dictated going in Civvies to church. I simply put my crucifix on over my street clothes.
