Hi everyone. I am a 23 year old female - catholic…I have recently got engaged to a Baptist Protestant and we are getting married in two years. I need some help with deciding where to get married. The problem is his family wouldnt come to a catholic church. I am not a practicing catholic in recent years which isnt a good thing and he doesnt practice either. Anyone got any feedback>

You say the family would not come to a Catholic Church - and you are not a practicing Catholic. I am assuming you want to get married in the Catholic Church (from your question) - however if you are not a practicing Catholic - why?

The Sacrament of Marriage within the Catholic Church is a covenant between you, your spouse and God. Either you are willing to commit to the Catholic Church’s words during the ceremony - or you are not.

Sounds like you are not willing to be an active Catholic in your marriage - please have your ceremony at a place other than a Catholic Church.

Prayers for your planning.

What are your plans regarding your faith? Are you concerned that you will have a valid marriage for just in case you decide to practice some day? What about your children? You have a lot to think about. I hope you are deciding to practice. it would be really good for you to start sooner rather than later. You will want the grace necessary for being a wife and mother.

In order for you marriage to be considered valid you will have to get married according to the rules of the church. Make an appointment with your geographical parish pastor. You will need to take the prep class . You can get permission to marry a non catholic and permission to get married in a non catholic church. Luckily you are thinking about this early. Normally it takes at least 6 months to get married in the church when there are no complications such as needing to be confirmed.

As you are Catholic you either need to:

A) Get married in a Catholic Church

or

B) Receive the permission of your Bishop not to get married in the Catholic Church.

Any other circumstances result in a marriage that is not valid, and hence no marriage at all. Which would mean when you get “married” and move in together, you would in fact be cohabitating and living in sin.

Pax.

It is possible for you as a Catholic to request a dispensation from the bishop, through your pastor, to be married in a non-Catholic church for good reason. Anti-Catholic in-laws is sometimes a good reason. It would be considered a sacramental marriage, and be recorded in your sacramental records at the parish of your Baptism.
However, for that dispensation to be granted, you and your fiance still need to prepare for marriage in the Catholic Church. You need to learn what matrimony means, and demonstrate that you will live marriage according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. In other words, your preparation would be no different than a couple getting married within their Catholic parish.

This period of preparation is also a good opportunity for you to grow in understanding, practice and appreciation of your Catholicism. Let being Catholic mean something to you.

Make an appointment with your pastor now to discuss this with him.

Have you been confirmed?

you have your priorities wrong
the first is for you decide how you will honor the promises made at your baptism and return to the practice of the faith. To do this you will have to come to terms with the issues that have caused you to turn away from the Chuch and resolve them. Until you are in a right relationship with God there is no good future for a human relationship as demanding as marriage.

See your priest. Return to the sacraments, then discuss with him or those he delegates the meaning of the sacrament of matrimony and God’s plan for that state.

Amen…👍

Since religion doesn’t matter much to either of you, the venue where you hold the wedding ceremony shouldn’t matter either.

Assuming you’re going to have children, have you settled the question of what sort of religious instruction they will be receiving? Or are you going to let them decide for themselves?
