The setting: a Catholic wedding reception
The person: the priest
The dilemma: where at the head table does he sit? Next to … who?
 
at DD’s wedding there was no head table. groomsmen and bridesmaids were seated in couples at various tables around the room, bride and groom spent time at both parents’ tables, ate first course with her parents, main course with his, dessert with their friends. Priest sat with bride’s parents since it was our parish, but also spent time with grooms parents, since they were family friends.
 
The clergyperson sits at the table of the parents of the bride if he/ she is their clergyperson, or the table of the groom’s parents if he/ she is their clergyman. If he/she is the clergyperson of the bride and groom, he sits at whichever one of the family tables where he/she fits in best.

And don’t forget to have the MC turn the mic over to Father for grace before people start chowing down!
 
I’d seat him where he’d be most comfortable - i.e. w/ people he knows.
 
Ok, just joking here, although you could sit him next to some fallen Catholics!!! 😃

ok, so if there is no family table apart from the head table and JUST a head table, then he’d sit next to one of the parents, which ever family he sort of ‘belonged’ to. So if it was the bride’s family he’d sit at the very end next to the brides parents.
 
Thanks everyone. The head table has the wedding couple, the parents, and bride and groom’s families so we’ll put Father with the bride’s parents. Thanks for all your (name removed by moderator)ut, it was VERY helpful (really, it was).
 
For what it’s worth - this is the old, traditional way of doing it. 🙂
 
We don’t have a head table, just a “sweetheart” table (me and DF). I’ll probably sit the priest next to my dad. I’m not going to have assigned seating other than for our immediate families, the bridal party and the priest.
