Last night I had a dream that I found very disturbing. In the dream, a statue of St. Michael, which I have in my room, was broken. I’ve had a devotion to St. Michael for about 5 years now so, I’m very worried that this dream is a bad sign. I don’t know what to think. Any (name removed by moderator)ut is greatly appreciated!

The Subconscious is an amazing thing we can’t control ,
It’s possible that because your mind is so focused,
It begins to play games which in reality mean absolutely nothing,
If this dream continues over several weeks , then that’s another matter,🙂

I can understand why the dream would be upsetting, but to me, it sounds like just a dream. St. Michael battles with the power of our Mighty God who can never be broken and defeated. Rest in that thought and be at peace. Jesus said, ‘‘In the world you will have tribulation; be not afraid, I have overcome the world.’’

Dreaming is often just the editing floor of our head. And as snippets of our mind fall onto the editing floor, they don’t make any sense, or a disturbing kind of sense.

St John Bosco advised that we ignore our dreams.

Strange that he would do so as he was given many private revelations through dreams but still his advice stands, don’t worry about it.

A bit of scriptural advice on the subject of dreams … with a distinction that dreams “sent by God” are a separate case from the usual.
SIRACH CHAPTER 34
TRUST IN THE LORD AND NOT IN DREAMS*
1
Empty and false are the hopes of the senseless,
and dreams give wings to fools.
2
Like one grasping at shadows or chasing the wind,
so anyone who believes in dreams.
3
What is seen in dreams is a reflection,
the likeness of a face looking at itself.
4
How can the unclean produce what is clean?
How can the false produce what is true?
5
Divination, omens, and dreams are unreal;
what you already expect, the mind fantasizes.
6
Unless they are specially sent by the Most High,
do not fix your heart on them.
7
For dreams have led many astray,
and those who put their hope in them have perished.
8
Without such deceptions the Law will be fulfilled,
and in the mouth of the faithful is complete wisdom.
Exceptions to this counsel, per verse 6, were the dreams Old Testament Joseph had … and those he interpreted (ditto for Daniel); dreams “specially sent by the Most High” to St. Joseph instructing him to “take Mary as his wife” and later to “take the child and flee (from Herod)” and Pilate’s wife’s dream about Jesus before the crucifixion. 🙂

I feel pretty confident in encouraging you to keep UP with the devotion to St. Michael’s intercession … rather than dropping it due to this dream.

Seek and you shall find if it’s with a true heart and a discerning mind that looks for how possible ways of thinking on this dream or acting upon it somehow … measures up on the right/wrong scale. Because you came HERE seeking counsel (or whatever) … you will probably get some good counsel … and though I don’t know you … presuming you are sincere as you sound … you’ll probably benefit from the dream and do the right thing (or A right thing) per actions if you take some. Blessings to you. :gopray2:

I enjoy dreaming, particularly when it is vivid enough to remember; often it is not. I don’t look to it for guidance.

I freq. have odd dreams. Usually I wake up laughing outloud as the dreams are a comedy of sorts. I enjoy those dreams. However, the other eve. I had a strange dream. A voice in the dream said, "David H***** is sick. I don’t know anyone by the name of David H*****, but decided that I would and should pray for him. Yes, the ‘David’ had a last name, but I am not posting it. Yes, the Lord sometimes speaks to us in our dreams, but I think I would rather have the comedic dreams and wake up laughing and go back to sleep in a happy state. Peaceful and prayerful dreams for everyone.

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut everyone. I really appreciate it. I plan to continue my devotion to Michael. I have been slacking on it lately so, after that dream, I plan to be more committed to prayer 😊

Then I would say that was a good sign! I always desire to have a dream with Jesus, Mary, Or any saint. A friend of mine once was having some issues with a boyfriend of hers at the time, and she had a dream where she said his name and Mary appeared in her dream and she shook her head no. My friend was really upset because she liked this guy a lot. But, he wasn’t the best guy, and they broke up. She is now married to a different guy. But, I will never forget when she told me about that dream.
