I agree with you, and I am very sorry for my sins because I have offended God. But, it’s probably my scrupulosity when it comes to making my confession perfect. I don’t want to think I did something wrong after my confession, or missed something. Like I have in previous confessions.
Sorry I did not know you deal with Scrupulosity - it makes sense now why you ask - I think the most important thing is what others have said - you need to find a spiritual director a steady confessor to guild you which will help with your scrupulosity.

I see the same priest when I confess - sometimes he laughs at me with what I confess but with respect - basically he means I don’t need to come every week with venial sins - I also argue at the end about my penance it never seems to be enough for me and I ask for more. Example he might say read today’s Gospel - which I have usually already done.

I love this priest - hes the old style - his confessional is open for 2 hrs everyday all year round 3hrs on Saturdays - no appointment needed - always ready to bring the mercy of Christ to sinners. I can find no other priest that does this - he will even stay after mass to hear more if people are waiting - you should see the huge lineups at this church for confession. I wish more priests were like this - I have been turned away because the priest wants to go for Coffee with others rather than hear a confession at another church or told by appointment only. Most churches here offer it only a hour before mass on Saturdays - there are some that will hear your confession before mass if you ask.
A priest should always be ready to hear a confession.

I thank God for father Sean everyday.

I will say with regard to the number of times that sometimes you may not be able to remember exactly how many just tell the priest you don’t know.

One would confess according to what one does know…(when they are mortal)

Which can be say around 5…around once a month for the last several months…at least 5…etc

At times that may mean one says is a few times or many times or alot …or I do not know but many times…

JUST GO ALREADY.

I did this, I did that, I have a habit of cursing and foul language, whatever.
JUST GO

I did X seven times; I did Y a few times a day for around 10 years; I did Z every couple of months… Use specific but not too-specific descriptions: I used foul but not blasphemous language; I used foul and blasphemous language interchangeably; Etc.
  1. If the priest does not understand what you mean or needs you to be more specific, he will ask you. Most priests have heard everything already and so will understand you. If the priest does not ask you for more information, that means he has enough information to absolve you, and, as it is his responsibility to make sure he has enough information to absolve you, you do not have to worry about it *at all. *
  2. Anything you have legitimately forgotten or don’t know about is absolved along with the sins you confess. And if you say at the end of the list of sins: “For these and all the sins of my past life I am most heartily sorry,” you are again assured that all is forgiven (and letting the priest know you have finished).
  3. If you happen to remember or realize a serious sin later on, first, remember it’s already been forgiven, and secon, it is ok to mention at your next confession.
For a general confession or one covering a long time, it is necessary to spend a bit of time thinking about all the sins; however, it is recommended to spend only a few minutes recalling your sins before a regular confession. I learned this because I would do an examination of conscience on my way to church, and I had a long drive! This was extremely discouraging and I was very happy to learn we are only supposed to spend a few minutes doing this 🙂 Also, there is a little prayer asking for help from the Holy Spirit to recall your sins, I pray that and think of my sins, doing a little memory jog to help me remember them in the Confessional, and then I say other prayers until it’s my turn.

In terms of mortal sin -such is an obligation.

(unless one is say in a different boat -see my posts above).

Thanks for clarifying that; I meant it was ok to wait until one’s regular confession, since she mentioned being somewhat scrupulous.

And again, how do I confess when I have said something like “Da----”, or “I sw—”, or “what the h—” ?
Honestly though, this is just not confessional matter 99% of the time. Especially saying “I swear.” What exactly is wrong with saying that? It is NOT the meaning of Christ’s teaching on oaths that we can’t use this phrase!

To paraphrase nother poster on CAF who in some thread gave a good piece of advice for scroops like you (and me!)… Unless you can swear (there’s that word again!) on a stack of Bibles that it was a mortal sin, then you should assume it wasn’t.

And the VERY FIRST REACTION we should have to something we feel guilty about ought to be a small act of contrition - THEN we can ask ourselves how serious it was.
