I just purchased Welcome to the Catholic Church CD-ROM. It has tons of Church documents on it and contains the NAB, RSV, Theology of the Body, etc. Is this CD recommended for possible converts as well?

Thanks for the info. Stay safe.

I bought this program several months ago, use it constantly and love it. I thought it was the best electronic Catholic document source I could find for the money (I’d love the LOGOS software, but at nearly $500…wow). I purchased mine through Steve Ray’s online store through his website www.catholicconvert.com.

I went to both sites mentioned and I don’t see the title on either one. Can you post a link the the product itself from either web site? Thanks!

Yes, it is a great resource.

I use it a lot in my theology classess. I take notes on my laptop and whenever the prof mentions a section of the Bible, CCC, the Summa or a papal document, I just cut and paste from W2TCC into my notes 👍

Thanks for sharing Manny! And stay safe! You are in my thoughts and prayers. And I know what you mean about being thankful for places that ship APO!

Sincerely,

If we are talking about the Harmony Media CD-ROM, I had version one, now have version 2, and will certainly buy a version 3 if there is one. It is great having 2 bible translations, CCC, saints, prayers, articles handy on one CD, able to cut and past quotes and cites for articles, retreats, etc. Quick research on any topic, search engine works well. It stays in my CD drive all the time unless I need to work, rarely, with something else.

Is there an equivalent CD-ROM version to replace Welcome to the Catholic Church? It appears the publisher of the 2006 version (3 or 4) has gone out of business and I am looking for a CD-ROM (or other software) that is Windows 7 compatible. (I have been keeping my old XP just for programs like this but it is time to say good bye to it.)

Thanks…

You realize this thread is almost 9 years old, right? 😛

Yes, I know these all were old posts. At this point I am reaching out because this was and still is very good material, but I have not been able to find a replacement. I was hoping to find a forum member that may have found something equivalent for use on Windows 7. Microsoft no longer recommends that we even try compatibility mode as they cannot ensure that the security of XP will be available after 2014.

Thanks for asking as I am a new member to the forum - but a long-time supporter of Catholic Answers - (I am that in need to find a solution that I went on the forums :yup: )

Ah, I see. 😃

Well, I see two solutions for this:

  1. *]Just use the old media on Windows 7, it probably should work, and I doubt there’d be any security issues.
*]Use a virtual machine to boot into Windows XP, and use it there – the virtual machine will isolate your main system from any issues, and you won’t need to run the program in compatibility mode. 🙂

Not sure if this is compatible with the discussion but I’ve used “Faith Database” for some time now and find it quite useful.

faithdatabase.com/

No affiliation, but it is not too pricey and contains a lot of information (10 Bible translations, CCC, Church Fathers, etc) right at your fingertips. Worth a look.

Bible Gateway is a very handy website for different translations of the Bible.

Try the Application Compatibility toolkit from Microsoft.
microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7352

You install it, run it, and then attempt to run your program. It will then tell you what the program is doing that prevents it from running on Windows 7 ( most likely trying to write to sections of the Registry that are now restricted for Security reasons).

It will then offer work arounds (called ‘shims’)

Doing this is supported and was common for corporations moving from XP to Windows 7.

The link above is the one for Windows 7 and 8. There is a new one out for Windows 10

Here is a video on how to use it.
youtube.com/watch?v=jd44QbVMgSY

It is NOT an easy tool for your average end user, it is designed to be used by a computer professional, but it can get almost any program to work.
