Do your legs get used to standing and your knees get used to kneeling? Hubby and I (plus he’s a bunch thinner than me) are like AHHHHH after being in mass an hour.

Hubby was singing (He’s Lutheran so better than me at mass) and I was like uhhhh. I read from the hymnal though…is that weird?

I had NO idea what to answer back to the priest 😦 Lots of people just kept quiet…is that okay? I butchered most of it.

I have to write and ask them where the potty was. I thought it was a door but it was the confessional  leave it to me lol!

Overall though…for the first time EVER I felt included, not judged, and in a church full of people loving Christ just as much as me. It was AWESOME 😃

Congratulations on your first mass!

Yes, you’ll get the legs and knees to be able to withstand standing and kneeling at mass sometime soon. The more you go to Mass, you will be able to do it!
Reading from the hymnal’s perfectly fine. You’re not required to sing during mass.
As for the “butchering” the responses. The more you go to Mass, you’ll learn the responses. (The Lord be with you. -And with your spirit., etc.)

Once you get used to it, you’ll see there’s not that much standing and kneeling, and if you feel it’s going to bother you physically, it’s fine to just sit. I did when I was recuperating from a leg injury. I did always try to stand through the Gospel reading, though, in honor of Christ.

A lot of people don’t sing, but singing is praising God, too, so you should sing if there’s a hymn book in the pew so you know the words. Don’t worry if you don’t have a good voice. People don’t care about that. They care about making a “joyful sound.” They care about praising God.

It will take a little time to learn the responses, but as someone already said, response cards are usually available. If they aren’t, you can find the Mass online and print it out. That way you’ll know what that priest says and what you should say.

Ask anyone where the women’s restroom is. Anyone will be glad to tell you, and I’m sure it’s there somewhere!

Glad your experience was so positive! 🙂 You’re always welcome in a Catholic church.

Oh sweeeeet!! Im a brand new convert. 6 days old 😀. Going to Mass actually helped my knees. 6yo injury way better since I started going to Mass 1.5 years ago. At my church, some lean forward and fold their hands if they can’t kneel. Find someone who looks friendly and ask a question or 2. Most will be happy to answer. Enjoy your faith journey 👼

In terms of responses, just learn it bit by bit. To start with, whenever the priest says “The Lord be with you”, reply “And with your spirit”. That will come up a few times during the Mass and will be a good start.
