I have been reading a book about the Samaritans recently, called Tradition Kept.
It discusses the Samaritan traditions and cultures, along with giving translations of their versions of the scriptures. It is interesting that the Samaritans themselves claim that they never worshiped idols and always worshiped the God of Abraham.

Traditional Jewish sources say otherwise, however. They say that not only did the Samaritans incorrectly choose Mount Gerizim as their holy site instead of Jerusalem, but that they actually worshipped idols for a time.

So who is correct? Both the Samaritans and the Jewish sources are obviously biased against each other. It is my understanding that the Samaritans were originally moved to the area from pagan stock, so it is possible that they were idolaters. Is there any clear evidence that they were?

I also thought it was interesting that there are still Samaritans, even though only a couple hundred. It’s an interesting book, I recomend it.
