Were you a virgin up until you took the marriage sacrament?

Virginity I think can be a source of pride for many people. The virtue necessary for a happy marriage is chastity.

What if your wife died in a car crash and then you were dating a virgin…would the virgin in their pride reject your love and potential marriage because you already had sex?

The flesh is weak…and to write someone off because of their shortcomings in the dealings of the flesh is just as weak in my book.

I’m wondering how many catholics actually live by the moral guidelines?

I plan to, but I’m just waiting for ‘the one’. It’s been a long wait lol.
We were both virgins at the time of our wedding. We were strong in our faith, but neither of us was Catholic at the time. But we strongly believed in the sanctity of marriage, and that sex belongs to married people.

It was hard to wait for the wedding night, but it was worth the wait! 🙂

We were both virgins when we married in our mid to late 20’s. I tried like hell in my university days to lose my virginity but whenever an opportunity arose, it did not feel right. God had a master plan and I ultimately stuck to it. Waiting was ultimately worth it:thumbsup:

I don’t think your question is to personal. I think it’s a valid question to a young person in this society, when we are all surrounded by sex. In high school and college it was everywhere, e majority of my friends lost their virginity and very open about it.

I wanted to wait until I was married. My boyfriend and I both agreed that would be best for us. We always attended mass together and it was pretty easy for us.

We got married 5 1/2 years after we got together. We are now married 8 yrs and have two children together.

No. I was a pagan when I met my non-practicing Buddhist wife. I became Catholic years after we got married.

No.
Despite having precious little experience before meeting my husband…I was not a virgin.

I wasn’t a practicing Catholic either. I was secular and agnostic and truly thought nothing of sex outside of marriage. I did manage to keep my virginity far longer then what is considered typical.

My husband wasn’t either. However, he was raised Protestant and, for the most part, always believed in the Truth of Christ. I have asked him why he didn’t consider the bible’s message about fornication. He claims he felt better making up his own rules and trying to justify them himself.

We both entered the Catholic Church together and we both became Catholics in full communion with the Church within a month of our wedding.

Of course…we lived chastely without incident prior to our marriage once we decided to convert together. To be honest…it was easy for us to transition from fornication to Chastity without incident.

Our wedding night was still special. 😉

No. My wife and I have only had each other as partners. So that is good.

However, we did have sex before getting married.

Our Lord gave us a Sacrament to tell our sins in and its called the Sacrament of Reconciliation, or Confession. You can tell your sins all you want here but none of us can give you Absolution. Actually I don’t really think it’s any of our business what you have done and I’m happy when your right with God. We can all pray our society will get right with God someday too, hopefully soon. I’m not a big believer in spilling your guts out to everyone, sounds to much like bragging to me. Guess I’m a bit old fashioned, but some things are sacred. Including my wedding night! God Bless, Memaw

that is true we all have pasts and a future, heck, even saints had some iffy pasts but they saw their mistakes and corrected that.
Having said that, uts ok to know your partners past, I mean what if they have some sort of STD. you have every right to know
Heck, one saint was a criminal his whole life and only repented at his death. (St. Dismas)

Context– I’m a college student

My answer– I’m a virgin and not yet married. For that matter, I don’t even have a girlfriend. And not only am I waiting to have sex until after I marry some day, I was also shocked when my mom packed condoms in my boxes for college, as if she was insinuating that I’d wind up violating two Church teachings this past year.

Because there was champagne, roses, chocolate, and a heart-shaped bed with pink silk bed sheets - and I had a honkin’-huge diamond ring on my finger, and something really pretty to undress out of. 😃
