Maybe someone can help me understand something…

I am adamantly pro-life, but I cannot support the West Coast Walk for Life.

If I recall correctly, The Washington March for Life dates back to the very first anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. It starts at the Capital steps and ends at the Supreme Court. Both of these locations are important, in that the participants are striving to encourage Congress to enact laws supporting life (or even, God willing, to enact a constitutional amendment protecting the unborn), and for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The West Coast walk started just a few years back and chose San Francisco as the location. At first I was impressed by the chutzpa to go into the “belly of the beast” in this way, but I now have misgivings about it. First of all, San Francisco in no way is the West Coast equivalent of Washington, DC. It is more on par with New York, Chicago, or Boston. What San Francisco does have is a large, open, and militant homosexual population. So it strikes me that the main purpose to choose this as the location for the Walk for Life was to make a show of strength in a venue that hates us.

If there was a West Coast equivalent to D.C. it would be Sacramento. This is where California law-makers have repeatedly passed pro-abortion legislation. Even if Roe v. Wade were overturned today, abortion would remain legal in California.

So it comes down to the question: What is the purpose of the Walk for Life?

If it is to encourage a change in law, then it’s in the wrong place. If it’s just there to antagonize the homosexual population (which by definition is not where abortion is happening) then I don’t see its purpose.

If someone can enlighten me, please do!

My guess is because it will get more media coverage. SF is “The City”

I’m not sure that the gay issue is the reason San Francisco was chosen. However, according to an account of the first march, as described on the Walk’s official website, the location seemed deliberately to be a poke in the eye at “liberal” San Francisco.
West Coast Walk for Life:
The fact that such a loud, clear and beautiful pro-life, pro-woman, pro-family Walk was being held in San Francisco, a typically liberal city, gave more punch to our message!

But I don’t think that is the only reason. An annual protest, if it wants a large crowd, may want to pick a site which offers fun things to do after the march. San Francisco is a very tourist-friendly place. So is DC. Sacramento… not so much. :o

I don’t see any problems with it maybe it should be somewhere else I just think that people from the SF diocese decided to do this and it exploded I guess. Get on the people from those other cities not the people from SF

my diocese just started one and I hoping it big, life march in baton rouge check it out if you are near the area.
