Is this for real?
saintbenedictmission.com/
He says he is "Orthodox in belief, Western in liturgical practice and evangelical in outreach. "
and "The Mission Church of Saint Benedict is formally a traditional Old Catholic congregation known as Saint Faustina Catholic Church, the people and clergy began application to be received into the Orthodox Church in the Summer of 2009. "

I’m skeptical. It seems he is searching and considering traditional liturgical identity as long as its not Roman Catholic.
This Father Nathan Monk has a lot of videos on youtube.
🤷

There definitely is a “Western Liturgy” in parts of Eastern Orthodoxy. This group seems to say it’s “Orthodox” but I can’t find that they claim to be part of any of the true Orthodox Churches, like the Greek, Antiochian, etc.
That makes me a little suspicious. I am very new to Eastern Orthodoxy, though so maybe someone with a little more knowledge will respond.

Most faux Orthodox groups make a big deal out of their Bishop’s legitimacy, which that site doesn’t do. I have found many Orthodox Parish’s that are not upfront with canonical affiliation simply because they don’t want the labels.

It looks pretty legitimate to me.
Based on certain choices of words, I would guess it is Antiochan.

My impression is completely different. It has always seemed to me that NM took an Orthodoxy-or-bust approach. (I used the past tense advisedly, since he has recently left Orthodoxy.) In other words, when he found his Old Catholic jurisdiction to be too liberal, he apparently had no interest in going to the PNCC, ACC, ACA, etc. Only Orthodoxy.

Having said that, may I add that I’m not looking to put him down. It’s clearly a sad situation, what with his leaving Orthodoxy now, and I pray that he and his wife will find peace.

I wasn’t sure what you were talking about so I looked it up.

That is quite a sad story, and unfortunately too many Orthodox feel that way about the Western Rite.

Christ said “If anyone causes one of these little ones–those who believe in me–to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.”

Pray for this former priest, but pray also for those who pushed him astray.

Isn’t Father Nathan Monk the Orthodox priest who recently left Orthodoxy because he supported gay marriage?

From his story it sounds like he started to see his own difficulties within the church (lack of acceptance) with the difficulties they claim within society as a whole.

So he was only ordained last year and gone this year. Wow.

So is this mission parish now dead? Or are they assigning a new priest to it? Are the congregation sticking around?

To the OP
Well, it is a legit deal. Or should I say, WAS. They are Old Catholics who embraced Orthodoxy and have been accepted as a congregation that celebrates in the Western Rite. But as I have posted, Father Nathan has since moved on from being an Orthodox priest.

Page doesn’t look like it has been updated in quite some time. Which is sad.
