I am making up my menu and was wondering what everyone else is having. Are you downsizing amounts, or trying new things?

We are only 6 this year for dinner.

Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, Brussel sprouts with onions and bacon, a casserole of broccoli, cauliflower, red pepper, and corn in a cheese sauce. 😋

This does not include appetizers earlier in the day.

Apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie with cranberries for dessert. Later, much later. 😉

Let us know what you are making!

I want to make chicken. A nice roast chicken.

My husband wants Turkey.

Just us and my sister if she can come.

Turkey 21lbs
Ham 6lbs
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Stuffing cornbread/bread cube mix
Noodle kugel
Green bean casserole
Yams with pecans and marshmallows
Hawaiian rolls
Veggie tray with homemade ranch dip

Dessert
2pumpkin pies
1pecan pie
Whipped cream
French vanilla ice cream

All for a party of 9-10 ! :hugs:

@F_Marturana, I prefer chicken myself. But I can suffer through turkey once or twice a year. 😂

Uh oh, might have to add sweet potatoes! Thanks @Pattylt!

For three people, a chicken is perfect! A nice plump roaster would be delicious!

Do the Turkey a few days earlier or later…if earlier, you could have some meat set aside to reheat on thanksgiving for traditionalists!

I love both Turkey and chicken and never mind having either anytime. So few people ever have Turkey except on holidays…WHY, I ask, WHY?

I sometimes make a “hotel style” turkey in the summer when I run out of ideas for dinner. And then all the leftovers get made into different things!

Thanksgiving day dinner is all about the leftovers, I think. Everyone looks forward to a cold turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce on it the day after Thanksgiving… but you have to have the roast turkey and trimmings first, or else it doesn’t taste quite right!

It will be just my husband, toddler, and me for Thanksgiving this year.

I know that we will definitely be having homemade cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and an oreo pudding pie. I am going to try to make a fun punch with 7up and frozen sorbet.

Still undecided about the main dish and most of the sides. I made this roast last year, but it makes so much food for only three of us. I do want dinner to still be special though.

Maybe I will get some good ideas from this thread!

Every year after Thanksgiving, our Walmart marks down all the fresh Jennie-O turkey breasts to $3 each. They are about 5-6 pounds each and I usually grab about 4 of them and then freeze them. If it were only my husband, son, and me, that’s what I would have cooked (I still have one breast left in the freezer, the others were cooked into lunch meat throughout the year because deli turkey meat can’t compare to “REAL” turkey meat!)

That looks very interesting and quite “ambitious.” Could you halve the recipe?

I might try to cut the recipe in half and maybe start checking it early in the oven so that it doesn’t burn. That is a good idea! Thank you!

Our Thanksgiving dinner is usually pretty interesting 🤣. My husband is vegan so a lot of the traditional foods I grew up with end up being tweaked or replaced with something else.

You sound like my mom. We are having a small turkey, for me, that I’m actually roasting today. On Thanksgiving I’ll have some leftover turkey and I’ll fix her some baked haddock. She’d rather have fish or pork than anything else! Oh and we’ll have stuffing, cranberry sauce, roasted sweet potatoes, and I’ll be baking apple pie, pumpkin cookies, and the regular homemade bread (King Arthur, white whole wheat flour, 2% milk, brown sugar eggs, yeast, and cardamom) that I bake weekly anyway.

I forgot to mention my kids. 🤦‍♀️

6 of us total.

I’m getting a turkey 🦃 after all.
