Regarding the THIS ROCK article, “Defending the Deuterocanonicals” by Jason Evert, Vol 11(9), September 2000: catholic.com/thisrock/2000/0009sbs.asp
Mr. Evert states that while the 7 Deuterocanonicals are not directly quoted within the New Testament, there are also 8 protocanonical OT books that are not quoted within the NT. He lists Song of Songs as an example but I would like a full list. Thanks.

I have often heard that the deuterocaninicals were not “quoted” but after reading and studying them i find many either direct quotes or so close that they would be considered quotes.

I agree. Jason Evert is wrong. In judging whether, for instance, Christ is “quoting” Sirach in Matthew, recollect that we are reading (1) an English translation of (2) a Greek rendition of (3) Jesus’ Aramaic rendition of (4) the Greek Book of Sirach, which inm judging whether Christ is “quoting” it we read (5) in English! That degree of “displacement” characterized by a re-re-re-re-substitution of synonyms for synonyms in different languages is going to result in remarkable changes.I, personally, think that Jesus quoted massively from Wisdom and Sirach.

Anyone who doubts He used and quoted from these books simply needs to read them, and note the teachings of Jesus, you’ll get writers cramp. After reading them you’ll wonder if He used any other books. For example, His teachings on marriage, an everlasting covenant, the two become one, come from Tobit, compare this teaching with Deuteronomy.
