I was told that if you are unsure of what you did was mortal sin then it is not mortal sin because it is doubtful. Is this true because if it is I feel like this would help me out a lot since every time I do something I debate if I committed mortal sin

I think that’s generally a rule that priests use when ministering to people with scrupulosity. If that’s you, you should really be taking these questions to a priest.

Unsure at the time, or unsure later due to lack of memory? If the memory fails then it is not required to confess a sin as a mortal sin.

One should make a reasonable effort to find out the gravity of something before doing it, when there is a doubt. Now, if a person does not care if something is grave matter or not before choosing to do it, it demonstrates indifference.

Catechism of the Catholic Church
2094 One can sin against God’s love in various ways:
- indifference neglects or refuses to reflect on divine charity; it fails to consider its prevenient goodness and denies its power.

What I mean is I know the sin is grave but I’m unsure if I commited the sin. For example I know that lust is a sin but I don’t know if I looked at a woman lust fully or normally

Questions about what is or is not a sin need to be addressed to your confessor.

Extremely few here have a formal training in moral theology, so the question is, why would you ask strangers on the internet a question that needs to be addressed to your confessor?

Too often then answer is that the one asking has a problem with scrupulosity; in that case the question absolutely needs to be addressed to your confessor, as no one here is equipped to deal with the additional burden.
