I spoke to my chaplain today, and it looks like I will not be confirmed until Easter 2011.

I will be off this deployment and back home before that time, of course. I am interested in Knights of Columbus and joining the church community in other activities. Are there restrictions forbidding me from participating in these?

Thanks,
James

I can see where “Baptized at Easter 2011” would make sense if you are a Catechumen. But if you are already Baptized there would be no reason to delay until 2011 for Confirmation? You can join in many Church activities and ministries, even certain K of C activities without being a member.

I am not sure why either, but I don’t know if I will even be in Iraq by the time Easter comes around, so I expect whatever parish back home to want me to do RCIA of some form back home, and really welcome it. I have waited 32 years for this, who am I to hurry it up after turning my back for so long and refusing to do what I knew was right?

I’ll talk to the KofC at home as well and see what I can do, as well as other ministries.

gladwell,

I want to encourage you to keep your chin up and remain steadfast in your quest.

I realize there is a real lack of priests over there and your internet time is limited.

I’m home now in Louisiana so I can just make appointments any time I like with someone to guide me and it still feels like a real luxury.

I would suggest you listen to Father Corapi’s catechism series in the meantime. There are 58 hours of essential bare bones lectures that will prepare you and nourish you.
