As for myself, I do not want people to make me say that the New Mass is good, but that it is simply less good than the Traditional Mass. I cannot say that. I cannot say that these modern sacraments are good. They were made by Protestants. They were made by Bugnini. And Bugnini himself said on March 19, 1965, as can still be read in the “Osservatore Romano" and in “Documentation Catholique," which magazines published a translation of Bugnini’s discourse:

“We must strip from our Catholic prayers and from the Catholic liturgy everything which can be the shadow of a stumbling block for our separated brethren, that is for the Protestants."

Whether someone said this before 1982, I do not know.

Yes, it’s given that way in the transcript of his speech from the sspxasia site, which someone posted on in one of the early threads of this page. One can read what Mgr. Bugnini wrote in the article, and then read what Lefebvre told the audience; although the general topic is the same, the quotations themselves are highly different (in Lefebvre’s version, Mgr. Bugnini announces to everybody, “I want to destroy Catholicism! Nyah!”)

I think you have made the assumption that I am judging.

Im not.

More just an observation, based on the parable of the tax collector and Pharisee (both Jewish) that we always have to be on guard that just because we are Catholic (or as in the parable, Jewish) doesnt mean we are ok.

With in each of Catholics (and other Christians) is the potential for living both. The humble tax collector or the ego and arrogant filled Pharisee…

I strive to approach the Lord with more of the soul of the penitant tax collector. I often fail of course.

How not to regret that ‘Mother Church- Holy, Catholic and Apostolic - deigned to revoke’ the seventh prayer? And yet it is the love of souls and the desire to help in any way the road to union of the separated brethren, by removing every stone that could even remotely constitute an obstacle or difficulty, that has driven the Church to make even these painful sacrifices.

Is this what Fr. Bugnini actually said? If so, it’s no less annoying that what he was reported to have said.

WE have to change our rites drastically in the HOPE that the spiritual children of heretics MIGHT convert. And it didn’t work. Vatican II lets Muslims say that our faith is false because it changes. It should be clarified or abrogated.

Enough with the handwringing! If we are sanctified then people who truly want the same will join us. Return to the old devotions and rites, I say. Meddling with doctrine or rites is stupid if you are also claiming to have the unchanging Truth. Time to end the experiment!
